“You walk by faith and not by sight, because you do not hope for your future; instead, you envision it with detail, clarity, and confidence. “

Thank you Sooner Football for the support! through and through.
This evening I had the pleasure of interviewing Ace Hodges mother, Austin Hodges. Ace committed to OU in June of 2023. He was the number one center in the state, playing from Casady, in OKC. He was offered offense and defense at OU. He attended camp and told Coach V he could place him, after camp Venables assigned him to defense. Ace, who is 6’2, 270 lbs, wanted to play wherever he was needed. He had played Center, OT, OG, NT, DE, and LB in his high school career. He had 61.5 tackles his senior season, 21.5 tfl, 13.5 Sacks, 11 passes batted down and 1 forced fumble. No wonder Venables placed him on defense. He had been on the radar of Bedenbaugh at least since his sophomore season, that year he went to camp and became aware of being followed by him along with several other coaches who had taken notice of him. Then he saw Coach V at a baseball game and he walked up and asked him, “Are you Ace?” to which he answered, ‘yes.” That was the entirety of the conversation. Then Ace received a direct message from Coach Bates with an offer. He walked over to Coach Venables and showed him his phone and Coach V said, “How about that?” and slapped him on the back as he laughed.
Ace had several other offers, among them were Princeton and IMG, but he either declined them or didn’t even think about them. Once he committed to OU, he was full bore Sooners. He never posted any of his other offers from other schools, none of them mattered once he decided to go to Oklahoma. His faith and that of Coach Venables played a huge role in the decision for making OU his landing spot. Venables looks on the condition of these young men after football and what they might do if football is not in their future. When he and his parents were visiting the campuses, other coaches spoke of offering material goods, but Coach V talked about how he would make the kids he coached into worthy men. As parents, Michael and Austin Hodges felt their son would be in good hands and if for some unforeseen reason, Ace would not make the draft after his college career, he will attend law school. He is going to school as a PWO, he already has an academic scholarship and hopes the NIL will cover the rest. His athleticism is not limited to one sport, he is also the Texas Prep State Champion in Wrestling as a Heavyweight. He currently leads a Bible study and FCA and hopes to win others to faith by his example. This kid sounds like quite an athlete and scholar with a strong faith. Welcome to Sooner Nation!
