Dr. Harwell has these reflections to share on what community means:

"As the executive director of OAPGG, I’m proud of the community we have built and continue to build for addressing problem gambling in Oklahoma. Our network includes counselors across the state, tribal employees, helpline workers, public health professionals, and Oklahomans of every background who are impacted by gambling disorder. The more we work together, the more we can strengthen Oklahoma and create a future of health and safety."

A message from OAPGG Executive Director Dr. Wiley Harwell:

"I have been honored to be elected to the National Council on Problem Gambling 3 times and to have served as board president from 2015 to 2017. Serving on the board has meant connecting communities across the country to address gambling disorder. As gambling rapidly increases its reach, it’s important that we come together to create a stronger, healthier future for everyone."

Awareness is an important first step, and you might be surprised by how much you see gambling in video games, social media, and movies when you start noticing.

When children are exposed to gambling early, they are far more likely to develop a problem later in life. Survey data shows that 71% of Americans with children under the age of 18 are concerned about underage gambling exposure.

Parents, educators, coaches, and caregivers all play a role in prevention. Healthier futures often start with honest questions: Do you know what gambling is? Do you know it has risks?

In Oklahoma, prediction markets are threatening tribal exclusivity in the gambling sphere.

The lack of regulation presents many concerns for gambling safety and harm prevention.

Tribal gaming officials are sounding the alarm about prediction markets, or events-based wagering that operates outside the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) framework and tribal-state compacts.
