is expanding the Bearkat Promise!

Sam Houston State University is expanding its Bearkat Promise program, raising the family income eligibility threshold from $40,000 to $100,000 for Fall 2026. Eligible first-time-in-college students and first-time transfer students can receive funding to fully cover mandatory tuition and fees for up to 15 credit hours per semester!

To qualify for the Bearkat Promise, students must:
✅ Be an entering freshman or transfer student at SHSU for Fall 2026.
✅ Be a Texas resident with demonstrated financial need.
✅ Be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant.
✅ Submit the FAFSA by the priority date of March 1.
✅ Enroll in at least 12 credit hours per semester.
