It is freezing out there! ❄️ Just a reminder that when we’re shivering, we subconsciously hike our shoulders up to our ears. If you’re feeling extra tight or "crunchy" this weekend, it's likely just that winter tension setting in.

Two ways to reset at home:
1. The Heat Fix: Grab a heating pad or a warm Epsom salt soak. The magnesium and heat tell your nervous system to stop "armoring" against the cold so those muscles can actually drop.
2. The Tension Release: Grab a tennis ball, lean against a wall, and let it press into those tight spots between your shoulder blades. Take a few deep breaths and let the pressure do the work.
I’ve been booking up pretty quickly lately, so if you’re feeling the winter aches, jump on the calendar for your next session here: https://soulful-reconnection.square.site
Stay warm! ☕️

❄️ Whew… that was a LOT of snow.
If your back, shoulders, or neck are sore after all that shoveling, you’re definitely not alone.

Shoveling is tough on the body, especially when we’re lifting, twisting, and pushing more than usual. A few gentle reminders to help take care of yourself:

• Warm up a little before you start
• Use your legs as much as you can
• Keep the shovel loads light
• Turn your whole body instead of twisting
• Take breaks and listen to what your body’s telling you

And if you’re already feeling tight, achy, or just not quite right, bodywork can really help. I’ve got a few openings left this week, so feel free to grab one while they’re still available.

What do you do to practice self-care? 💫

Self-care doesn’t have to be big or fancy. Sometimes it’s the quiet, everyday choices that help us feel more grounded, rested, and like ourselves again.

A few examples:
• Taking a walk without your phone
• Saying no when your body or heart needs rest
• Drinking water and actually slowing down
• Journaling or sitting in silence for a few minutes
• Going to bed earlier instead of pushing through
• Booking that massage or reiki session — it’s not a luxury, it’s self-care

Self-care looks different for everyone — and that’s okay.
What’s one way you’ve been practicing self-care lately?

Some private insurance plans may reimburse for massage therapy, depending on your plan.

Massage therapy isn’t part of insurance coverage, but reimbursement may be available through certain plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Health New England, Tufts, Harvard Pilgrim, and Flux Spending. Not sure of any others.

A client shared that they were reimbursed within a week after submitting a receipt.

It may be worth checking your insurance to see what your plan offers.

Friendly reminder to stay hydrated this winter 💧
Even though we may feel less thirsty in colder weather, the body still needs just as much water. Dry air, indoor heating, caffeine, and increased muscle tension can all contribute to dehydration. When tissues don’t get enough water, they lose elasticity and can feel tight, achy, or slow to recover.

Helpful winter hydration tips include sipping water regularly throughout the day, adding warm beverages like herbal tea, and pairing water intake with meals and movement. Hydrated tissues respond better to stretching, massage, and bodywork, making hydration an important part of self-care during colder months.

If you’ve been feeling stiff or fatigued, I have a few massage and reiki appointments open this week. These sessions can help improve circulation, support tissue health, and give your body the care it needs to move through winter more comfortably.

And just like I say after every session… don’t forget to drink your water 💧

❄️ Winter Wellness Reminder ❄️

Winter invites us to slow down and soften. It’s common to notice:
• More tension in the body
• Lower energy
• A nervous system asking for extra care

This season isn’t something to push through. It’s an invitation to listen and respond with kindness.

💫 A simple winter practice:
Take 5–10 minutes to sit or lie down comfortably. Place one hand on your heart and one on your belly. Breathe slowly. As you inhale, imagine warmth spreading through your body. As you exhale, allow stress and tightness to gently melt away.

Massage and Reiki can be especially supportive in winter, helping to:
• Ease muscle and joint tension
• Improve circulation and warmth
• Calm the nervous system
• Restore balance and grounding

Gentle winter reminders:
• Stay hydrated, even if you’re less thirsty
• Choose warming, nourishing foods and drinks
• Allow yourself to rest without guilt

Winter doesn’t need to be rushed. Gentle care now supports balance and wellbeing all year long 💫

Also look into your health insurance as most insurance are now reimbursing for massages

The calf muscles play a powerful role in how we move, balance, and stay grounded. 🦵
Physically, the gastrocnemius helps propel us forward with every step while supporting walking, circulation, and stability through the legs and feet.

When the calves hold tension, it can show up as foot pain, Achilles tightness, knee strain, or even lower back discomfort. This area often works harder than we realize.

From an energetic perspective, the calves are closely connected to the Root Chakra 🌱 which relates to safety, grounding, and feeling supported. Tightness here can reflect stress, overworking, or a constant sense of pushing forward without rest.

Massage and Reiki focused on the calves can help improve circulation, release deep tension, restore grounding, and bring ease back into the body ✨

If your legs feel heavy or tired, this may be an area asking for care
