The eating disorder never lets you win.

You hit the goal…
and it moves the bar.

Again.
And again.
And again.

Because this isn’t just about food.

It’s about self-worth, trauma, life experiences, and the beliefs we’ve absorbed over time.

That’s why recovery requires more than just changing behaviors.

After struggling with anorexia and compulsive exercise for over 10 years, I became a certified eating disorder recovery coach so I could help others find their way out of the same mental war. 🍒

Recovery isn’t just about eating more or exercising less.
It’s about reclaiming your mind, your time, and your life from something that once controlled everything.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my story and my message on and to continue the conversation about what real recovery can look like.

No matter how long you have struggled, where you are in your recovery journey, or who you are one thing is always true: RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE. 🍒🤍

Eating disorder treatment can be life-saving.

But the work of recovery does not end at discharge.

Many people leave treatment still trying to figure out how to navigate recovery in real-life.

At work.

In their relationships.

Along with their responsibilities.

That’s where recovery coaching fills the gap by providing real-time support and accountability when it matters most.

The well-known Minnesota Starvation Experiment showed us something important:

Starvation & malnutrition change your personality.

It can result in
👉🏻 obsessiveness
👉🏻 anxiety
👉🏻 rigidity
👉🏻 depression
(just to name a few)

These aren’t character traits. They are the result of starvation.

At some point, the eating disorder stops feeling like something you’re dealing with…

and starts feeling like who you are.

But here’s the truth:

You are not your eating disorder and the eating disorder thoughts you have are not facts.
The rules your eating disorder created were created to keep its place in your identity.

And the moment you start questioning those rules…
is the moment things can start to change.

🍒 life you want is waiting for you that life doesn’t require you to keep proving yourself to your ED.

Recovery isn’t an outcome to achieve.

It’s a learning process that you live through and learn from.

It’s a process of progression not perfection.

The strongest women I know?

They’re the ones who choose recovery when it’s scare as hell.

The ones who have the meal or skip the workout when their brain is screaming not to.

The ones who sit with discomfort instead of trying to outsmart it.

High-achieving women like to think that control is power.

But in with an eating disorder?
Control is prison.

Power looks like trusting your body.
Letting go of perfection.
Choosing consistency over extremes.
Asking for support instead of handling it alone.

Recovery isn’t giving up. It’s refusing to let an eating disorder control your life.

And the women who quietly do the recovery work every day? They have the power.

❤️

As someone who used to be a compulsive exerciser, I told myself I was “disciplined.”
I told myself I was “committed.”

The truth? I was l terrified to stop.
I was afraid to slow down.

Movement wasn’t freedom.
It was control.
It was punishment.
It was how I measured my worth.

Downhill mountain biking changed that for me.
& it changed it for too.

You can’t half-commit on a feature. You either ride it… or you don’t.
You either trust yourself… or you freeze.

…just like recovery.

MTB taught me something my eating disorder never could:
Growth requires calculated risk.
Progress requires discomfort.
And control is an illusion.

My eating disorder promised safety.
It delivered isolation, obsession, and a shrinking life.

Recovery felt risky.
But staying stuck was the bigger gamble.

I don’t want to look back in 10 years wishing I had “hit the feature”… in riding or in life.

So ask yourself:
What calculated risk are you actually avoiding?
And what is it costing you?

Is it more risky to stay comfortable with your eating disorder or is it more risky to commit to recovery?
