Getting ready for Daylight Savings means we are gradually pushing our childrenโs bedtime (and AM wake time) L A T E R. As we go out with our families to trick or treat or participate in social events, we want to plan ahead. By preparing for Halloween, we are also preparing for the time change happening the next night.
How to shift our baby or toddlerโs day LATER:
๐ Stretch Wake Windows. This means if your child is not showing strong sleep cues, push the wake window by 5-15 minutes before starting the next nap. We can do this by distracting and keeping busy!
๐ Sleep Late: If your baby is still asleep, let the nap go over 2 hours or let them sleep past the usual morning wake time if possible.
๐ Add A Nap: if you can squeeze a cat nap at the end of the day, this can help push bedtime later. Even a little snooze in the car or stroller will work!
Remember that we donโt have to have our children perfectly in sync with the time change by Sunday morning. We can continue to make progress in the days to follow, one day at a time!
