Caring for your mental health isn’t something extra; it’s what keeps you grounded when life gets overwhelming. The better you tend to yourself, the more capacity you have to support those around you. That means learning what drains you, creating space to rest, and giving yourself the same care you offer others.

The best gift you can give yourself this holiday season is peace of mind. With so much to worry about, it’s easy to forget your own needs. Take this as a reminder to slow down, prioritize what matters, and care for yourself because you deserve it.

NAMI NJ’s former Summer Advocacy Intern Leah Wentnick recently gave a TEDx talk at the University of Delaware on the power of language in preventing su***de. Sharing her own experience, she argues that social media posts and ribbons aren’t enough. We need to listen and have difficult conversations, avoiding words that trivialize su***de: “When we choose our language with care and intent, compassion finds its way back to us.”
