Many thanks to all who donated to our Sixth Annual Mitten tree during the Holiday Hearthside Open House on Dec. 6! This year we donated 44 pairs of mittens and gloves, three hats and three scarves to the Chatham Children's Fund.

Ring in the holiday season with us this Sat., Dec. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Caleb Nickerson Homestead - Chatham Annual Holiday Hearthside Open House. We'll see a demonstration of open hearth cooking as we enjoy cranberry punch and holiday cookies before the crackling fire. A Victorian Santa will be on hand. And, if you are able, please bring mittens for our Sixth Annual Mitten Tree. All mittens go to the Chatham Children's Fund. All are welcome! 1107 Orleans Road, North Chatham.

Spaces are still available in the upcoming Hands-On-History classes inside the Caleb Nickerson Homestead - Chatham. Cheryl Flett will lead a class in making a felted reindeer on Sat., Nov. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. And Sonny Gada will lead a class in making a Thanksgiving centerpiece on Sat., Nov. 22. As it gets colder, naturally we think about knitting mittens!

Happy Halloween! As the cold weather comes upon us, here's a reminder that we're hosting our annual Mitten Tree at the Hearthside Holiday Party at the Caleb Nickerson Homestead on Sat., Dec. 6 from 1 to 4. Thanks to your generosity, we have donated over 200 pairs of mittens and other knitted items to the Chatham Children's Fund in the past five years.

Our fall classes are about to begin! On Sat., Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. you can create a felted gnome with Cheryl Flett.
Felting is an ancient craft that involves making wool into cloth without weaving or knitting. In this hands-on workshop Cheryl will show you how to create your own felted gnome for Halloween using wet and needle felting techniques. All materials are included and beginners are welcome.

Stop by between 10 and 2 today and noon and 4 tomorrow and take a look-see. On display now are the artifacts from the excavation of William and Anne's ca. 1664 homestead. The summer is sadly winding down. But-- good news! The Caleb Nickerson Homestead - Chatham is open today (Friday) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come see us and walk through the beautiful Colonial gardens! Admission is free, but donations are accepted. In September we will be open on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Caleb Nickerson Homestead - Chatham is open today (Thursday, August 7) from noon to 4 p.m. It's a gorgeous day to walk through our ca. 1829 house, see the exhibit on the archaeological artifacts, and walk through our Colonial gardens! Free admission; donations are accepted.

Our Story

The Nickerson Family Association, located on Cape Cod in Chatham, Massachusetts, is devoted to the Nickerson family name and to the descendants of William and Anne (Busby) Nickerson, the founders of Chatham, Mass. We are currently sponsoring the excavation of William and Anne’s c. 1664 homestead. The 2019 season of excavations will begin on July 29 and run for approximately two months. All are welcome to visit the dig behind the NFA campus on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. when interpreters are at the site. Dig commemorative t-shirts and mugs are available for sale at “the Nick House” on the NFA campus, 1107 Orleans Road, North Chatham.
