The Interprofessional Community Clinic (ICC) aims to provide quality healthcare for uninsured adults

MISSION
To 1) provide accessible, quality healthcare for the uninsured persons in the Lake County community with dignity, respect, and cultural humility, and 2) encourage future healthcare professionals to work in underserved communities and excel in interprofessional communication and teamwork, with an intentional emphasis on the principles of diversity, inclusion, and equity. HISTORY OF THE CLIN

IC
Founded in 2013 by students from the Chicago Medical School, the ICC now has students from the various degree programs (allopathic medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, podiatric medicine, and psychology) working together in interprofessional teams to provide accessible, quality healthcare to non-insured residents of the surrounding communities. SERVICES
We provide primary care services for basic acute illness, vaccinations, and chronic-care issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease. Patients are seen by an interprofessional student team made up of medical, physician assistant, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, or podiatry students, and treated by a supervising healthcare provider. During your visit, we can help design a health plan for you, as well schedule appointments for additional needs you may have, including podiatry, behavioral health, and physical therapy. We can also provide referrals to nearby free clinics for diagnostic testing and other supportive services. INTERPRETATION
We offer Spanish to English interpretation service for our Spanish-speaking patients to communicate with their providers in the language they are comfortable using.

This beautiful Sunday, our clinic facing EOs met with our community partners in Heart of the City in Waukegan! This beautiful discussion was run by Jenna Hersh, our EO of Community Outreach and PADs EO Lana Elzein. We learned more about our partners and how they each play a part in both the Lake County community and within the ICC. The EOs learned more about the North Chicago and Waukegan. The ICC is always serving within the community and community outreach is everything. We appreciate the time for you to meet with us. With new seasons come new leadership! The ICC Summit took place on January 15th, marking the official passing of the torch from our 2025 E-Board to the 2026 E-Board.

Special big thanks to the 2025 board for their hard work, time, and dedication to help advance the ICC and provide care to the local North Chicago community. Your work has set the foundation for the 2026 board to continue the ICC mission.

Special thanks to our esteemed faculty who also made it possible for the students to run the clinic. Your pearls of wisdom and guidance never go unnoticed. The 2026 board is excited to work with you!

ICC student leaders recently attended a conference on family planning where they learned about the impact of current laws on health care practice, the management of reproductive conditions, and the importance of an interprofessional team in family planning.

From hands-on learning with MVAs and IUD insertions, to presenting on the significance of establishing a partnership with direct relief — our students learned how to advocate for more education and health care access, for both patients and medical students.

Congrats to our October Volunteer of the Month! Allison, one of our amazing front desk volunteers, welcomes our patients to their appointments with warmth and enthusiasm. She is integral in maintaining clinic flow, ensuring all documents are completed, and scheduling follow ups. Thank you Allison for your hard work!

The Pediatrics and Archives panels are excited to begin a new project: creating a children's bookshelf for our waiting room! We're aiming to make the waiting room a comfortable place for our young patients, while also fostering a love for reading and learning. Help us out by donating at the indicated sites!

The pelvic health and patient education panels are collecting menstrual products to give to patients at the ICC food pantry! We are collecting pads, tampons, panty liners, menstrual cups, menstrual discs, and period underwear. We will be accepting donations around campus in bins marked with the flyer above starting on Monday, 8/18. Please reach out with any questions!

We've been busy here at the ICC this summer!
Back in May, the Patient Education panel organized a move-out food drive, where students moving out of on campus housing could donate unopened non perishables for our food pantry!
In June, our PADS panel held a community health screening event, where we provided preventative care for local community members, including blood pressure monitoring and blood glucose checks.
In July, Some of our faculty and board members had the opportunity to visit Fenix, a local clinic that shares the same values and goals as our clinic. We love getting to collaborate with other providers nearby and share ideas!
