A big milestone for Dr. Scott Stanat last week - 3,000 MAKO total joint surgeries.

An incredible milestone for Dr. Scott Stanat, celebrated last week with the amazing team at Backus Hospital.

MAKO is a robotic-assisted technology used during joint replacement surgery that allows surgeons to create a personalized surgical plan based on each patient’s anatomy, helping guide precise implant placement during the procedure.

3,000 procedures represent thousands of people who have been able to return to walking, working, and doing the things they love.

Congratulations to Dr. Stanat, and thank you to everyone who helped celebrate.

In complex spine conditions, changing one thing in the body can sometimes reveal another issue.

That’s why continuity of care matters.

A Preston resident recently shared how working with Dr. Karan Patel, one of our fellowship-trained spine surgeons, through two surgeries and ongoing recovery, helped him finally regain his life.

Thanks to WTNH for covering this story and to Dr. Patel for helping patients move beyond years of pain and get back to living life on their terms.

Using K-tape is one of the tools we have to help manage swelling after an injury.

Here, Tori is applying the tape in a specific weave pattern to create a light lifting effect on the skin, helping guide fluid away from the area and support circulation.

Thank you to Niantic Yoga and everyone who joined us this weekend for a mobility workshop led by Kate Thoms alongside our own Dr. Justin Thoms.

Events like this are a great reminder that orthopedic care doesn’t start or end in the operating room. It also includes education, movement awareness, and helping people stay active safely.

We’ll be sharing a few highlights and takeaways from the workshop in upcoming posts, along with upcoming opportunities to learn with Hathaletics.

Follow here and for more.

Feeling rushed at a medical appointment can make it hard to ask the questions that matter.

Taking time to listen, explain, and make patients comfortable is something our providers strive for every day.

Thank you to patients who share their experiences and help others feel more confident seeking care.

Snow doesn’t mean stop moving.

Winter is still a great time to stay active, whether that’s walking, snowshoeing, sledding, skiing, or simply getting outside with family.

A few safety reminders to help prevent injury:

✔️ Warm up indoors before heading out
✔️ Wear proper footwear with traction
✔️ Layer clothing to stay warm without overheating
✔️ Use trekking poles for balance on uneven terrain
✔️ Start slow (cold muscles fatigue more quickly)
✔️ Stay hydrated (especially in cold weather)
✔️ Be mindful of icy surfaces (Take shorter steps on snow or ice)

Staying active year-round supports joint health, balance, strength, and overall wellness.

Move safely. Move consistently. Move all winter.

Not ready for joint replacement but tired of living with arthritis pain?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy uses concentrated growth factors from your own blood to support tissue repair inside the joint.

In our latest YouTube video, Dr. Gauthier walks through a real-time ultrasound-guided PRP injection for severe arthritis.

It’s not an overnight fix, but for some patients, it’s a meaningful next step.

If you’ve been putting off spine care because surgery sounds intimidating, it may help to know how much things have changed.

As spine surgeon Dr Wagner explains, today’s spine procedures often use robotic assistance and high-resolution imaging to improve accuracy and reduce unnecessary tissue disruption.

For many patients, this can support a more efficient, faster healing process.
