Our beautiful Celebration of Life Candlelight Ceremony was held at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Danielson, where we gathered with the families and friends of those cared for by our hospice program over the past year. It was a heartfelt evening of remembrance, reflection, and community. We extend our deepest gratitude to Reverend Yana Cruz-Pagan, the Killingly High School Concert Choir and their director Jason Largent, Chubby Dog Coffee Co., Lapsley Orchards, Putnam Stop & Shop, and our incredible Hospice Volunteers and staff for helping make this special night possible.

We were honored to meet with Congressman Joe Courtney, the Connecticut Association for Healthcare at Home, and Aveanna Healthcare to discuss proposed Medicare cuts that could reduce home health payments by over 9%, with even deeper impacts in rural communities like ours. These cuts would directly affect the care patients rely on at home. We’re grateful for Congressman Courtney’s advocacy—and we encourage everyone to raise their voice to ensure home health care remains accessible for all.

September is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the impact of this disease and to share information that can help families recognize the signs, reduce risk, and find support. After many years of working with patients and caregivers, I have seen how important it is for families to un...

We were proud to represent the Quiet Corner and home health care providers from across Connecticut on Capitol Hill, raising our voices to protect access to the home-based care our communities rely on.

💙 One Voice for Care at Home! Yesterday, our incredible team of Connecticut advocates took to Capitol Hill and achieved a perfect 100%—meeting with all seven CT congressional leaders. 👏

Together, we raised awareness and urged action on top priorities for patients, families, and providers:
1️⃣ Stop the proposed 9% Medicare cuts to Home Health
2️⃣ Protect the existing Medicare Hospice benefit (no Medicare Advantage takeover)
3️⃣ Make Telehealth flexibilities permanent
4️⃣ Strengthen Medicaid care-at-home services and providers

💪 Advocacy in action, ensuring care-at-home remains strong for the future.

Our seniors are more vulnerable to extreme heat. At Day Kimball Health At Home, our team is keeping a close eye on the rising temperatures and checking in on our patients to ensure they’re staying hydrated, cool, and well-supported.

Here are a few simple tips to beat the heat:

- Stay inside during peak sun hours (10 AM–4 PM)

- Use fans or air conditioning when possible

- Avoid using the stove or oven, they will make your home hotter

- Drink plenty of water — even if you’re not thirsty

- Wear light, breathable clothing

- Keep your curtains and blinds closed

- Check in on neighbors, family, and friends

Let’s look out for each other. If you know a senior in need of assistance during a heatwave, give them a call — or reach out to your local towns for locations of cooling centers.

With a stretch of hot weather ahead, it is important to stay safe. Keep cool by staying hydrated and finding shade or air-conditioned spaces. Heat-related illnesses can affect anyone. Know the signs and how to respond if you are experiencing symptoms.

If you are in need of a cooling center, call 2-1-1 or visit www.211ct.org.

Despite our best advocacy efforts, Connecticut’s final budget includes no increase in Medicaid funding for home health services. While this is disappointing, we remain committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to those who depend on us—and we’ll continue to raise our voices for the support our community’s patients and workforce deserve.

Despite our team’s hard-fought advocacy this session, the state budget failed to raise Medicaid funding for home-based care, putting at risk the system that helps thousands stay safe and independent at home.

We need a better path forward. Home care saves money, supports local jobs, and ensures our most vulnerable residents receive care where they want to be: at home.

But we’re not giving up. We will continue calling on the Governor and state legislature for a 10% Medicaid rate increase and a long-term plan for care at home. Connecticut deserves better, and we’re still fighting for it.
