The Health and Wellness Team is hosting their second annual Senior Social on Tuesday July 30th! From 4-4:30p there will be a fun 30 minute exercise class, followed by games and refreshments until 5:30p. Come join us and celebrate another successful year of exercise class! If you have not attended class before, we would love to have you join us and meet some new friends!

EQUIP Self Care and Special Events teams hosted its Annual Scavenger hunt on Wednesday! DPT students got to participate in a game of scavenger hunt around the North Haven Campus with an ice cream social after to celebrate!

FIRST PLACE: Katelyn Normann, Adam Duren, Luke Osifchin, Rob Pirrera, Alexa Imme, and Caitlin Huang

SECOND PLACE: Addie Ellithorpe, Annie Beckman, Abbie Coughlin, Kevin Barry, Gabby Berthiaume

With all the hard work our Self Care Team has been demonstrating, this team wanted to enjoy a beautiful summer day by having a team bonding corn hole tournament. The teams consisted of mixing both cohorts to make it more fun and competitive! Congrats to our winners Anna and Gabby!

On Saturday, June 8th, our Go Baby Go team hosted their summer giveaway event! At this event our team gave away 5 personalized cars to children and their families from the New Haven area. These cars will allow the children to be able to better access their community and area and we are so excited to help them succeed. Thank you to the children and families as well as our incredible faculty and facilities teams for helping us make this event a great success!

Last week our Health And Wellness Team hosted the 4th Annual Senior Fitness screening, where they performed a general fitness screenings to local seniors that included strength, flexibility and endurance testing. After the participants completed their screening, they were educated by team members on how they compared to their peers of similar age, and different exercises or activities that they could do to strengthen what they were weakest in. Big thank you to all our team members who volunteered their time to make the event great!

The past two weeks, our Health And Wellness Team and Self Care Team enjoyed the beautiful summer weather to promote physical activity outside!
H&W took their exercise class outside for a walk along the Bobcat stride, led by instructors Courtney and Tiffany. Big thank you to all the volunteers who gave their time to come walk with us! The next one will be July 23rd if you want to join!
Self Care also got their steps in along the Bobcat stride with the Cheshire Collaborative students! Excited for a summer filled of exercise! ☀️

To wrap up the semester, we wanted to highlight our patient coordinator, Ashley Constantine, and student coordinator, Kristen Collins, who also run our self care team! Here are their thoughts/insight on their current roles- which they are doing so amazing in!

“Our goal on the Self Care team is to promote and think of creative ways for students and faculty to encourage their well being during the busy semester. So far, this semester we have done a step challenge and reading challenge along with a meditation event to help students decrease stress.

As patient coordinator, I contact local clinics and hospitals and educate them on our student led pro-bono clinic and have them send me referrals for patients who need physical therapy.

As student coordinator, I’m responsible for creating student-run treatment teams for both PT cohorts in our pro-bono clinic. Part of my job in this position is to also manage the EQUIP attendance for all student and faculty members for both EQUIP for Life Teams and in the clinic.”

We thank both of them for their dedication in the clinic as well as promoting wellbeing during the semesters! Keep up the excellent work 😊

On Saturday, our Health & Wellness team hosted the annual Keefe Community Center Health Fair. We were able to give out health education on a wide range of topics to over 100 participants who also received fresh produce from the Hamden food bank. It was a huge success!

We would like to thank our sponsors including Quinnipiac Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Clubs, PT Moves Me, Hamden Fire, Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven Health Department, Paint Hamden Pink, Pressure Check, Dana White Nutrition, Hispanic Health Council, United Way of Greater New Haven, Hamden/North Haven YMCA, and Community Health Network of Connecticut.

Special shoutout to the Special Events and Self Care teams for volunteering their time to help make the day so successful! And thank you to the Keefe Center for hosting!

So many smiles this Treatment Tuesday! 😊 EQUIP wants to highlight both the dedication of faculty member Denise Cameron as well as the discharge of one of our amazing patients! Denise is an amazing asset to the clinic who has been able to provide exceptional feedback and clinical tips to our students! In addition, multiple treatment teams over the semesters have loved seeing Sarah’s progress, and her last session today demonstrated just that! She is an amazing reminder of how creative and fun treatment plans can be and we wish her and her family the best!

Another Treatment Tuesday in the books! We are so grateful to have had both Mike and Victoria, QU DPT alumni who were both former co-directors together, in clinic this evening! With only a few weeks left in the semester, we commend our current co-directors, Jack and Bianca, for doing a great job leading EQUIP this spring!

EQUIP Rehabilitation is hosting its annual book drive for Payton’s Pages! This book drive is to continue to supply the little library in honor of Payton Mickey. Bins will be located at the entrances of the law and medical school on the North Haven campus and any contribution is appreciated!

The EQUIP Self-Care Team will be holding a reading challenge from Sunday March 31st to Friday April 5th as a way to celebrate an end to National Reading Month! Please use the attached QR code or link in the EQUIP Rehab Instagram to list the number of pages you read each day. There will be a prize awarded to the individual that reads the most pages! 😊
