We join together with the communities we serve to raise awareness and mark Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

This month is a reminder that people with developmental disabilities deserve full access to economic opportunity, financial security and community inclusion.

In Maryland, the butterfly symbol, which can appear on a driver’s license or state ID to indicate a developmental disability, reflects growing efforts like Eric’s Law to promote safety, understanding and stronger protections for people with developmental disabilities.

Public policy matters, and so does access to the right financial tools and resources.

At National Disability Institute, we work every day to advance financial inclusion so people with disabilities can build assets, plan for the future and achieve their goals.

We have our first book recommendation for 2026: More Than Words: How Talking Sharpens the Mind and Shapes Our World Hardcover by Maryellen MacDonald. Her research has focused on the connections between language comprehension and speech production and the role of working memory. Looking for a local way to kick off the holidays in Studio City?

The Tujunga Village Holiday Block Party is back on Saturday, December 6, from 5 PM to 9 PM. Tujunga Avenue between Moorpark and Woodbridge will be closed to cars and turned into a festive street fair with shops, restaurants and neighbors out enjoying the night.

Expect kids activities, Santa, a live DJ, music and plenty of chances to shop, dine and stroll under the lights. It is an easy walk from the neighborhood and a great way to support local businesses while getting into the holiday spirit.
