Get the support you need from other new moms and lactation consultants every Tuesday. Stop by the Frontier Room (first floor, 2790) any time between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to speak with a lactation consultant, do weight checks and more. This free group is open to anyone in the community, not just NKC Health patients. (Please note a few times and locations vary.)

When NKC Health employees Stephanie and Jess McClaskey experienced the NICU firsthand in 2014, they turned it into a mission. After their daughter Izabel was born 10 weeks early and spent more than a month in intesive care, they created Belle’s Brigade to bring comfort, hope and support to NICU families.

What started with treats for nurses turned into care packages for families, filled with journals, snacks, notes, and helpful tips from parents who’ve been there. They’ve delivered hundreds of packages over the years to remind NICU moms and dads that they’re not alone.

“We’ve lived the anxiety, the stress and the fear,” Jess said. “We understand. And we want to offer hope, to let them know there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.”

NKC Health participated in North Kansas City Business Council tree decorating contest in the Welcoming the World category, decking out the tree with whistles, soccer balls, medals, cones, felt pennants and NKC Health soccer jerseys.

You can find the tree near the corner of Armour Road and Howell Street, right outside North Kansas City City Hall. If you stop by, snap a photo and make sure to tag us!

We'd like to give a very special thank you to The Breast Cancer Club for their donation of 300 bras to our breast cancer patients. 🩷

"Breast cancer patients frequently need new styles or sizes of bras during treatment. Unfortunately, it's a need that often goes unmet. Having the right bra is important for the patient's comfort, healing and dignity," said Julie Rudman, founder and executive director of The Breast Cancer Club.

The bras were collected and sorted by teen volunteers. Patients will be able to shop the racks for free.

Pam Bays, BSN, RN, CNOR, has been honored with the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Pam is the director of hospital surgery, overseeing more than 100 staff members.

"Pam leads with heart. She doesn't just manage staff, she sees them. She tears up with speaking about team members going through difficult times, and that emotional connection is a powerful reminder that leadership can be compassionate. Pam never loses sight of safe, excellent patient care."
