Family Wellbeing Associates would like to welcome Hawthorne Wellness Clinic to the area. Please check them out as they have a grand opening Saturday, October 11!
On behalf of myself and the Family Wellbeing Associates team, we look forward to learning more about the services and team of specialty providers that make up this exciting new clinic. I and the rest of the Family Wellbeing Associates team is excited about the opportunity to collaborate and determine how to work together for the best possible outcomes for our community as well as the individuals and families we serve.

Family Wellbeing Associates would like to provide information about the changes in Federal Telehealth Requirements as it relates to our mental health services.

During Covid-19, and due to the Public Health Emergency declaration, we were allowed additional flexibilities regarding the federal requirements to provide telehealth services and to extend these flexibilities would have required congressional actions to be taken. As of October 1, 2025 no action to extend these exceptions was taken, so MEDICARE is requiring the in-person requirement again.

The IN-PERSON requirement currently back in force impacts MEDICARE patients who have been seeing their mental health provider via telehealth.

This requires that NEW MEDICARE patients must be seen in person by their mental health provider within 6 months of their initial intake and assessment appointment AND then at least once every 12 months thereafter.

If you are a CURRENT patient using MEDICARE and started seeing your mental health provider while the Covid-19 waiver allowed exceptions of the in-person requirement, you will be required going forward to be seen by your mental health provider once every 12 months in-person. Please note there are a very few exceptions to this requirement.

For patients who DO NOT HAVE MEDICARE; are seeing their mental health provider via telehealth; and are covered by Medicaid, private insurance, Tri-Care, or other insurer: you may not currently be subject to this in-person requirement to continue your telehealth services. Please continue to contact your insurance provider as they often follow Medicare policies as guidance for their own policies and requirements for any updates on these requirements or if you have any questions about any aspect of your healthcare coverage.

Please keep in mind, many providers prior to the Covid-19 pandemic did not offer telehealth services because insurers were not required to cover telehealth services OR they provided reimbursement to providers at a substantially lower rate compared to in-person services.

MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS AND CLINICS should be reaching out to their Medicare Administrative Contractor and other third-party payors to clarify what changes to telehealth they will be implementing beginning October 1, 2025.

Please contact your legislators to advocate for telehealth permanency!
