Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I on November 11, 1918—the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Originally created to honor those who served in that war, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to recognize all U.S. military veterans. Unlike Memorial Day, which honors fallen soldiers, Veterans Day celebrates all who have served. It’s a time to thank veterans for their sacrifice and dedication to our country.
Looking for ways to give back on Veterans Day? Consider volunteering at a local veterans’ organization, donating to veteran support charities, sending care packages or handwritten cards to active service members and veterans, or simply reaching out to thank a veteran in your life. Small acts of appreciation go a long way.
How will you honor veterans this year?
