Chronic stress can lead to serious health issues, including heart disease, depression and anxiety. In honor of April's National Stress Awareness Month, take a moment to practice healthy stress management—whether that's by moving your body, practicing deep breathing or trying a grounding technique!
Dr. Allison Peet, a psychiatrist at St. Mark's Hospital, recently joined Good Day Utah with Kelly Chapman & Dan Evans to talk about the tools we can use to improve how we respond to and recover from stress.
"We all experience stress. It's part of life," Dr. Peet said. "The goal is not to completely eliminate stress. That's unrealistic. It's to get better at coping with and recovering from stress."
Common mistakes people make when they are trying to cope with stress may include:
🔵 Avoidance
🔵 Withdrawal
🔵 Isolating Yourself
🔵 Unhealthy Lifestyle Habits, including Substance Use and Excessive Screen Time
🔵 Misguided Mental & Emotional Behavior, like Negative Self-Talk, Criticism, Perfectionism and Rigidity
