Why Your Future Self Will Thank You for Stretching Today
Let’s be honest: back in our twenties, stretching felt like that optional "extra credit" at the gym. We’d skip it, hop in the car, and feel just fine. But as we navigate midlife and beyond, our bodies start sending us little reminders—a stiff neck after a long drive or a "snap, crackle, pop" when we get out of bed.

If you’ve been feeling a bit more like a rusty hinge lately, stretching isn't just a luxury; it’s your secret weapon for staying mobile, pain-free, and active. Here is why making a little time for it can change your daily life:

Reclaim Mobility: It lengthens muscles that naturally shorten with age, making everyday tasks—like reaching a high shelf or checking your blind spot—much easier.

Ease Aches and Pains: Many "age-related" pains are actually just tight muscles pulling on your joints. Stretching releases that tension, especially in the lower back and neck.

Improve Balance: Flexible muscles help you maintain a steady center of gravity, which is your best defense against trips and falls.

De-stress and Sleep Better: Stretching signals your nervous system to relax, lowering your heart rate and helping you unwind for a better night’s rest.

Boost Heart Health: New research shows that regular stretching can reduce arterial stiffness, helping to improve blood flow and manage blood pressure.

Getting Started (Without the Pain)
You don’t need to be able to touch your toes or twist into a pretzel to see results. The key at this stage of life is consistency over intensity.

Warm up first: Never stretch a "cold" muscle. Take a 5-minute walk or do some gentle arm swings first.

Breathe through it: If you’re holding your breath, your muscles will tense up. Exhale as you move into the stretch.

No bouncing: Keep your movements smooth. Bouncing can cause tiny tears in the muscle.

Listen to the "Edge": You want to feel a gentle pull, like a dull ache. If you feel sharp or stabbing pain, back off immediately.

Stretching is about making sure your body can keep up with your life - here's to a healthy, flexible body!

Four Steps Women Can Take Now to Prepare for Retirement
While women may face unique challenges when building financial security and planning for retirement, you don’t have to let those hurdles stand in your way. When you take steps to help educate yourself, become more involved in your finances and form your team of advocates, you can feel more empowered to make the important decisions necessary to successfully shape your path to retirement. The Beeing Well Financial team is in your corner and we are dedicated to providing you with financial education.

The following 4 steps can help you prepare for your retirement:

1. Understanding and preparing for challenges can help you diffuse the risks and determine the amount of savings you will need to meet your goals. Remember, the planning you do today will help determine how you live tomorrow.

2. It is crucial to be more engaged in long-term planning and ensure you have a well-thought-out retirement income strategy since, on average, women are living longer than men. If you’ve been hands-off up until now, there’s no time like the present to get involved and take a more active role in your financial life.

3. Envisioning your life is an important exercise in preparing for retirement. Aligning with your future goals can bring the importance of financial planning to the forefront and inspire you to take measures for your retired self. Plan your happiness and create a detailed image of your life. Take the steps necessary to design a retirement strategy that will work for you.

4. Now can be a great time to find a financial professional you respect and trust. Find someone who is willing to answer your questions, discuss solutions and act as your retirement planning advocate. It’s important you feel comfortable asking as many questions as needed, have a clear voice in creating your retirement strategy and know that as life changes, you can update your plan as needed.

Remember, retirement planning is a team effort and you are an essential member of that team. We can be your educational source for tips, tools, and financial solutions to help you experience Beeing Well Financially.

Does Walking Help Your Brain Stay Sharp?
A big YES to that question. Walking 5,000-7,500 steps a day slows Alzheimer's related decline, helping your brain stay sharper, longer. Even small increases in movement - a thousand steps per week will help improve cognitive benefits. Here is the other half of this, training too intensely will push you into metabolic dysfunction and blood sugar instability. It is important to find your "sweet spot” - enough movement without pushing into the extreme.

Here are a few steps you can follow without adding stress to your day.

1- Set a realistic daily step target between 5,000- 7,500. If you are inactive, aim for 1000, increasing that each week until you reach your personal goal.

2- Let your body tell you if you worked out too hard. If you feel sick after a workout, crash in the afternoon or have craving swings, you could be pushing too hard. Gauge how you feel after your workout.

3- Build recovery days into your week before your body demands them. One or two lower intensity days a week is good.

4- Create simple rituals that keep you consistent without causing more stress. Take a short walk after lunch, or walk while you are on a phone call. Keep your walking shoes by the door. Best yet, find a friend to walk with. Tiny adjustments create amazing habits.

Hopefully you are already moving. If not, find your shoes, phone or a friend, and enjoy keeping your brain healthy.

Becoming a butterfly...
"You cannot become what you need to be by remaining what you are." - Zig Ziglar

I have always loved butterflies, but it wasn't until I learned how they develop that I came to really appreciate them, and their unique symbol of change.

I knew that caterpillars turned into butterflies, but the process involves them disintegrating into a disgusting blob of goo - letting go of everything that made them a caterpillar - which then forms legs, wings and all that is necessary to become a beautiful adult butterfly.

There is a lesson there for us: we can't keep those parts of ourselves that are holding us back if we want to become something new, something greater. When we feel we are lost, broken, or irreparable, that is just the building block needed for full transformation.

We must surrender. We must allow. Surrendering is far more brave than holding on to who we think we are, just because it is familiar.

May we all take the opportunity this year to let go of those things that don't serve us, let go of the illusion of control over those things we can't control, and let ourselves be made into something new and beautiful.

Small acts of kindness...I loved this thought from John Perricone:

"Several years ago I invited a Buddhist monk to speak to my Senior elective class, and quite interestingly, as he entered the room, he didn't say a word (that caught everyone's attention). He just walked over to the board and wrote this: 'EVERYONE WANTS TO SAVE THE WORLD, BUT NO ONE WANTS TO HELP MOM DO THE DISHES'. We all laughed. But then he went on to say this to my students:

'Statistically, it's highly unlikely that any of you will ever have the opportunity to run into a burning orphanage and rescue an infant. But, in the smallest gesture of kindness -- a warm smile, holding the door for the person behind you, shoveling the driveway of the elderly person next door -- you have committed an act of immeasurable profundity, because to each of us, our life is our universe.'

This is my hope for you for the New Year -- that by your smallest acts of kindness, you will save another's world."

CREATE YOUR MAGIC!
Hello friends-

Our financial team recently returned from an intensive three-day training event, and we are excited to share with YOU what we learned and experienced.

The theme throughout the training was - create your own magic - not just by chance, but with knowledge and intention. The focus of the event was impactful and taught us how to better serve families by helping them plan ahead with clarity and confidence. We found that “magic” is created through education, preparation, protection, and thoughtful decisions made well before they’re needed.

Financial wellness starts with education and is built by understanding your goals and dreams, protecting what matters most, and by putting strategies in place that can support you and your loved ones through life’s changes.

If you have been wondering whether you are prepared for the unexpected, if your family is properly protected, or if your plans align with your future goals, we would love to help. Whether you’re reviewing your existing retirement plans or just beginning to explore your options, we’re happy to provide education and share solutions with you.

Thank you for trusting us to be part of your financial wellness journey. We look forward to helping you create your own kind of financial magic.

What's in your cup?
I recently read this analogy and loved it. I hope you enjoy it, too.

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee?

"Well because someone bumped into me, of course!"

Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.

Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.

*Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out.*

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

*So we have to ask ourselves... “what's in my cup?"

When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility?

Or anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions?

You choose.

Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.
