As Supervisor Editor of North Carolina Public Radio, Elizabeth Baier is transforming communication into meaningful impact. Through her work in storytelling, strategy, and media, she bridges the gap between complex ideas and the audiences they’re meant to reach. From crafting narratives to amplifying voices, her work highlights how thoughtful communication can shape perspectives and drive real-world outcomes.

When women lead in storytelling, media, and strategic communication, they expand access to knowledge and inspire communities to think deeper, connect stronger, and create solutions that matter.

Last week, Natalie La Roche Pietri, WLRN reporter, former Caplin News .news editor, and a proud participant of the Kopenhaver Center’s 2024 Leadership Bootcamp, led a powerful and thought-provoking conversation with Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, the first woman to lead Miami-Dade County.

What made this moment stand out wasn’t just the milestone it was the depth of the dialogue. Natalie fearlessly explored how gender shapes leadership, even prompting an unexpected moment when the Mayor shared, “I really did not expect this line of questioning.” A true testament to Natalie’s confidence, preparation, and journalistic edge.

The conversation tackled critical issues impacting women across Miami-Dade from income disparities to the disproportionate effects of poverty and examined how these challenges ripple across entire communities. It was a reminder that progress is real, but the work is far from over.

Natalie also didn’t shy away from the tough questions touching on current political challenges and future leadership possibilities demonstrating the kind of bold, impactful storytelling we cultivate at the Kopenhaver Center.

👏 We are proud to see our cohort members stepping into spaces of influence, asking meaningful questions, and shaping the conversations that matter.
