Happy Mother’s Day! To all our moms: we see your constant support, the endless driving, managing schedules, being your child’s biggest advocate, and all while making it look easy. Since becoming a mother myself, it changed me as a therapist. I started to understand the mental load only a mother can understand- and I am so proud to be surrounded by a bunch of strong, dedicated women. Cheers to all the moms and thank you for entrusting your babies with BTPT 💞

Proprioceptive, deep tactile, and vestibular input are 3 pieces of the sensory system that help with regulating the central nervous system, modulating over-responsive or under-responsive sensory systems, and motor planning. We love using our tumbler and crash pad to incorporate these senses into treatment for optimal arousal and to maximize functional ability in everyday activities of daily living 🖐🏻🦻🏻🧠👁

Today in therapy our friend worked on following one step directives. We used miniature objects and letters- his favorite, following simple prepositions in, on and under! These concepts are used in our every day, routine tasks and activities like this help to transfer skills into daily living.

We kicked off this morning making eggs in a cup, following directions, sequencing, planning and enjoying the finished product! Here, our friend is cleaning up- building functional life skills and following thru with task completion. We love watching our kids gain confidence and independence 💪🏼

🌈 Pairs well with the book “How to Trap a Leprechaun”- you can find it online on YouTube or Vooks if you don’t have a copy at home!

🌈 Having your littles plan, organize, and complete an activity then recall the steps is a great way to target a whole variety of goals without it feeling like “work”.

Cruising’ into the weekend like…

This friend is working on pronouns and sentence structure in speech and core strength and attention in OT. Here, she’s merging all concepts in one activity in addition to oculomotor strengthening, arch development and sensory processing. You go, girl!

We need to stop the “wait and see” narrative! We hear it all the time from families, “my pediatrician said we should just wait and see” or the daycare teacher said, “it’s not a big deal! They will catch on”. Early intervention is key.

Last but certainly not least, our youngest group of helpers, our 12-24 month old list!

For this age, your littles are just starting to help out. They may work on self help skills and building routines like shoes off and put by the door, matching socks and more. They will need a model and who better than you!?

Take this as both a learning opportunity and a conversation! We can use words like help, clean up, and target a variety of verbs and concepts like holding, waiting, washing, scrubbing, reaching, bringing, in/out, on/off etc.
