Matt Fosket Counseling LLC

Matt Fosket Counseling LLC I help adults and teens work through trauma, anxiety, and depression with direct, effective therapy. In-person in North Platte + statewide telehealth.

Specializing in EMDR, men’s mental health, first responders, LGBTQIA, and adoption-related concerns. Finding the right therapist matters. You need someone who understands you, respects what you’ve been carrying, and doesn’t waste your time. I offer a grounded, steady approach that’s built on trust, honesty, and real connection. My goal is simple: help you make meaningful progress and understand what’s actually driving your symptoms so you can move forward with clarity. I specialize in trauma recovery and use EMDR therapy as a primary modality, along with IFS, CBT, DBT, and other evidence-based approaches. I work with adults and adolescents facing anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, adoption-related challenges, identity concerns, and behavioral difficulties. My style is calm, direct, and practical. I want you to understand your patterns, what your body is trying to tell you, and what tools will help you get unstuck. I work extensively with men, first responders, and LGBTQIA+ clients. Men, in particular, often carry pressure quietly and wait too long to reach out. Therapy doesn’t have to feel complicated or uncomfortable—it just needs to be honest, respectful, and effective. I create a space where men and adolescents can talk openly, drop the armor, and work on the parts of their life that aren’t working anymore. My approach to therapy is also shaped by my life outside the office. I’m a husband and a parent to both adopted and biological children, including teenagers, and that experience gives me a practical, real-world perspective when working with families. I understand the realities, frustrations, and complexities that come with parenting, especially within adoption and blended family systems. I completed the nationally recognized Training for Adoption Competency (TAC) program through C.A.S.E., which allows me to offer adoption-competent mental health therapy for children, parents, birth parents, and extended family systems. In addition to therapy, I provide clinical supervision for new therapists in Nebraska. I’m committed to helping clinicians develop a strong, ethical, grounded practice while building confidence in their professional identity. I am a National Board Certified Counselor and a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP) in the State of Nebraska. I hold a Master of Arts in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Chadron State College and a BA in Secondary Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I’m an active member of the American Counseling Association, the Nebraska Counseling Association, and the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA.) I own and operate Matt Fosket Counseling LLC, where I provide mental health therapy, supervision, consultation, and office building management.

In the 1850s, racism was embedded so deeply into medicine that a false “diagnosis” called drapetomania was created to label enslaved people who attempted to escape slavery—treating the desire for freedom as a mental illness.

This wasn’t science. It was control.

Understanding this history matters. It helps explain why mistrust of mental health systems exists and why culturally responsive, ethical, and trauma-informed care is essential today.

Honoring Black history includes naming past harm and continuing to move mental health care toward dignity, equity, and healing. 🖤

Black History Month Mental Health Fact:

In 1868, the first psychiatric hospital for Black patients opened in the U.S.—not as a sign of inclusion, but as a result of segregation.

For generations, Black emotional distress was misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or dismissed altogether. This history matters because it shapes how mental health care is experienced—and trusted—today.

Honoring Black history includes acknowledging past harm and continuing to build mental health care that is equitable, culturally responsive, and grounded in dignity.

Healing is part of history, too. 🖤

Black History Month is a time to honor the strength, resilience, brilliance, and contributions of Black individuals—past and present.

It’s also a reminder that history isn’t just something we remember for one month. It’s something we acknowledge, learn from, and carry forward in how we show up for one another every day.

Today and always, we celebrate Black voices, Black stories, and Black excellence. 🖤✊🏾

Stress isn’t a personal failure—it’s a nervous system doing its best under pressure.

Therapy can be a space to slow down, understand what your stress is responding to, and learn ways to feel more grounded in your body and your life.

You don’t have to wait until you’re “burned out enough” to get support.
Support can be part of maintenance, not just crisis.

As a graduate of the accredited Training for Adoption Competency (TAC), provided by C.A.S.E., I am trained to promote healthy family relationships while understanding the impact adoption has on the child, parents, birth parents and the entire family system.

As an adoption competent therapist, I work to promote healthy family relationships while understanding the impact adoption has on the child, parents, birth parents and the entire family system.

Adoption doesn’t end when the paperwork is signed.

For many people, adoption continues to shape identity, attachment, and the sense of safety and belonging—often across a lifetime.

Adoption-competent therapy recognizes that it’s possible to feel love, gratitude, grief, and confusion all at once, even in supportive families. Nothing needs to be minimized or explained away to be taken seriously.

This approach centers lived experience and creates space for the parts of the story that may not have been given room before.

If adoption is part of your life or family story and you’re curious about what adoption-competent support looks like, you’re welcome to learn more here.

Today we honor Martin Luther King Jr. — not just his words, but the work he demanded.

Dr. King reminded us that justice isn’t passive, equality isn’t automatic, and silence is never neutral. His legacy challenges us to keep choosing courage, compassion, and action—even when it’s uncomfortable.

Progress happens when we show up, speak up, and take responsibility for the world we’re building together.

Let’s keep going. ✊🏽

Adoption can hold love and loss at the same time.

Thinking about therapy but not sure where to start? You’re not alone.

At Matt Fosket Counseling, I work with people who are feeling overwhelmed, burned out, stuck in old patterns, or just tired of holding it all together on their own. Therapy here is a space to slow down, be real, and figure things out at a pace that actually feels manageable.

If you’ve been on the fence about reaching out, this might be your gentle nudge. Support is available, and you don’t have to do this alone.
