American Parkinson Disease Association, Rhode Island Chapter

American Parkinson Disease Association, Rhode Island Chapter Strength in optimism. Hope in progress. The Chapter is an all volunteer organization.

We seek to educate those interested in learning more about Parkinson's disease, to assist support groups throughout the State, to help develop programs to meet the needs of Parkinson's patients and their caregivers and to raise funds to find the cure. While a few of us can accomplish some of these goals, most of them require the support and involvement of people like you.

šŸ™ŒProgram Reminder - Try something new this winter!

APDA Rhode Island is proud to partner with Up ENDing Parkinson’s through a community grant to keep this exciting climbing program accessible for our community.

Join Rock Spot Climbing each Friday at 1:00 PM at either the Lincoln or the Peace Dale locations for weekly climbing sessions designed specifically for people with Parkinson’s. Up ENDing Parkinson’s is a nonprofit dedicated to improving quality of life through adaptive rock climbing and movement classes that help with balance, coordination, muscle stiffness, and more.

The idea of rock climbing may sound thrilling but also daunting. Rest assured, they begin at a gentle pace with each person after consulting, meeting you where you are and taking the time to support you in making small, meaningful progress toward success at the gym!

Rock Spot is offering discounted day passes for participants, and members or punch pass users can join at no extra cost! Let’s climb to a healthier and stronger 2026!

🌟 2026 New Year's Resolution Setting 🌟

As we enter a new year, it’s a great time to set meaningful goals to support our health and well-being. Here are some resolution ideas for the Parkinson’s community to make 2026 our best year yet:

āœ… Prioritize Physical Activity: Incorporate regular exercise like walking, stretching, or specialized PD exercises and local programs targeted to improve PD symptoms, to boost mobility and overall health.

šŸ„— Maintain a Balanced Diet: Focus on nutritious, anti-inflammatory foods to support brain health and symptom management.

šŸ¤ Stay Connected: Strengthen social bonds by joining support groups, participating in community events, support groups, or staying in touch with loved ones.

šŸ’Š Commit to Medication Management: Review your medications regularly with your healthcare team for optimal symptom control.

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø Practice Mindfulness & Stress Reduction: Use mindfulness, meditation, or relaxation techniques to manage stress and improve mental health.

šŸ’¤ Focus on Sleep Hygiene: Create a calming bedtime routine and environment to improve sleep quality, vital for overall health.

🧠 Engage in Cognitive Stimulation: Challenge your brain with puzzles, reading, or learning new skills to support cognitive health.

šŸŽÆ Set Personal Goals: Establish small, achievable goals to foster a sense of purpose and progress.

🩺 Advocate for Yourself: Stay informed about Parkinson’s research and treatments, and communicate openly with your healthcare team.

šŸ” Practice Safety at Home: Assess your living space for fall hazards and make modifications to create a safer environment.

🌸 Focus on Self-Care: Dedicate time to activities that bring joy and relaxation, whether hobbies, arts, or time outdoors.

šŸ¤— Seek Support When Needed: Remember, you’re not alone — reach out for support and community whenever you need it.
