The Rhode Island State Nurses Association stands with the Pawtucket community following the tragic shooting at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena. We unequivocally denounce gun violence in all its forms and recognize the very real trauma that is left for victims and families, players, spectators, and first responders present.

We are deeply grateful for the courageous community members who stepped in to render aid, including Nurse Maryann Rattenni and retired firefighter/EMTs Chris Librizzi and Glenn Narodowy. Their swift action reflects the very best of our profession and our state.

If you or someone you know has been impacted and needs support, resources are available through the State of Rhode Island Support Hub: https://governor.ri.gov/SupportHub

In moments like these, we lean on one another. RISNA remains committed to supporting our nurses, our healthcare colleagues, and our communities and to advocating for a safer Rhode Island for all.

Statewide Virtual Support Hub In the wake of the tragic shooting at Lynch Arena, the McKee Administration has launched a Statewide Virtual Support Hub. Click here for resources and information.

Dear RISNA Members,

The Rhode Island State Nurses Association stands in alignment with the American Nurses Association following the tragic killing of Registered Nurse, Alex Pretti. His loss has reverberated across the nursing community and beyond, leaving many of us grieving.

As nurses, our response is guided by our professional ethics. Provision 8.2 of the ANA Code of Ethics calls on nurses to address social, structural, and institutional factors that threaten health, safety, and human rights. As such, ANA is calling on Congress to act, and we urge RISNA members to raise their voices in support of the following priorities:

Ask your members of Congress to:

1. Require an independent, transparent investigation into Alex Pretti’s killing
2. Reform federal immigration enforcement practices that place communities and nurses at risk
3. End enforcement actions that undermine safe workplaces, patient trust, or HIPAA protections
4. Withhold further funding for federal immigration enforcement until Congress conducts robust oversight and hearings

Take action now: Visit ANA’s advocacy page to send a message directly to your U.S. Senators and Representative, demanding accountability. Anyone may participate by adding their home address to ensure your message is routed to the correct Members of Congress. https://ana.quorum.us/campaign/demandtruthforalex/

Nurses have a responsibility to protect life, advocate for safety, and speak out when the safety of our communities is threatened. This is a moment for collective action.

In solidarity,
Rhode Island State Nurses Association

Demand truth for Alex Pretti

Alex Pretti, a registered nurse, was killed in a horrifying shooting at the hands of federal law enforcement. Alex’s life mattered, and the American Nurses Association (ANA) denounces his killing and the circumstances surrounding it.

We ask all nurses to visit https://ow.ly/sGMn50Y3L57 to send a letter to your members of Congress. Let them know that nurses demand immediate action.

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is deeply disturbed and saddened to learn of the death of Alex Pretti, a registered nurse, in Minneapolis earlier today. We extend our condolences to Alex’s loved ones, colleagues, and the community at large.
