Today is World Diabetes Day, a reminder that diabetes affects more than blood sugar. It can also impact oral health. High blood sugar increases inflammation in the body, which can lead to dry mouth, a higher risk of cavities, gingivitis, and periodontitis. Research shows that gum disease can make it harder to control blood sugar, creating a cycle of inflammation and infection.

The good news is that routine dental care makes a real difference. Treating gum disease has been shown to help lower A1C levels, even when nothing else is changed.
