Have a soft, rubbery lump under your skin? It might be a lipoma, a common, slow-growing, and benign fatty tumor.
While most lipomas are harmless, removal may be considered if they become painful, grow rapidly, are cosmetically bothersome, or if the diagnosis is uncertain.
Removal is typically straightforward, depending on the lesion’s size. An initial consultation helps us determine if we can perform the excision in-office or if a referral is the safer option.
The removal process is a simple in-office procedure. We use a local anesthetic to numb the area, make a small incision, and carefully excise the entire lipoma. The incision is then closed with sutures, which are removed at a short follow-up visit.
For your peace of mind, we always send the removed tissue to a lab for pathology to confirm its benign nature.
If you have a lump you’d like evaluated, schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists to discuss your options.
