New blog post on EMDR therapy and what it is used for:
" EMDR is especially helpful for unblocking recurrent negative thoughts or memories that may be intrusive at times. Often, these negative thoughts started after a person had a traumatic experience that caused them to start questioning themselves. Many of my clients over the years have heard me say that EMDR therapy is the mental and emotional equivalent of removing a splinter.Your body cannot really heal well after an injury involving a foreign object until the object is removed. Sometimes healing can be done around a splinter, but often it will cause infection if it is not removed. Sometimes removing the splinter is painful, but often the healing effect of the removal of the foreign object is well worth the temporary discomfort of getting it out."

Expanding our EMDR services: We have fantastic news to share! One of our therapists, Jazmin Morales, LSW has completed the first part of her 2-part EMDR training. Jazmin has years of experience in working with teens and young adults who have suffered from traumatic experiences, but now she can start providing EMDR therapy to these populations as well.

Part of our mission here at Shift Counseling, PC is to be responsive to the needs of our community. Many of our neighbors are living in a state of constant stress or fear right now. They may also be mourning the loss of loved ones. While therapy cannot change the larger issues at play here, it can help individuals to cope better with stressors.

If you or someone you care about has been negatively affected by current events, especially if it is a struggle to eat, sleep, and function because of stress, EMDR therapy and other trauma informed treatments can help.

Big development here at Shift Counseling, PC... In an effort to make our services more accessible to the Spanish Speaking community, we have hired two new Bilingual (English/Spanish) therapists, and we have found a widget that translates our website into Spanish!

Thankfully, our EHR hashtag has also made some recent improvements in their Spanish language accessibility as well. We are now able to seamlessly onboard bilingual clients who are looking for therapy for depression, anxiety, and trauma related issues for adults and teens.

In our five years of service, Shift Counseling, PC has always had a high percentage of male clients.
