Tonight! The Ringling Bridge will be lit in TEAL to recognize World Fragile X Day. The lights will be turned on 30 minutes after sunset and turned off 30 minutes after sunrise.

NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center - 5 a.m. update: "There is a danger of life-threatening storm surge along much of the Florida west coast where a storm surge warning has been issued, with the highest risk from Ft. Myers to the Tampa Bay region. Residents in these areas should listen to advice given by local officials."

Sarasota County Government has announced Level A evacuations with evacuation centers opening today at NOON. Level A includes the barrier islands, mobile homes, RVs and boats. Find your evacuation level and centers here: www.scgov.net

If relaxing, having fun, enjoying good food and listening to great live music over the weekend ’The Plan’– have exactly what you need at the Premiere of the Sarasota Blues & BBQ Festival at Sarasota Fairgrounds in Sarasota, FL. Dates of the festivities are May 6-8, 2022.

The fun and relaxation begin Friday evening 4pm-10pm and continues Saturday 11am-10pm and Sunday 11am-6pm. Admission is $15 on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are available Sunday for just $5! The event is produced by Paragon Festivals and hosted by the Sarasota Downtown Enrichment Association.

Sarasota County Emergency Management officials have coordinated with municipal and community partners to provide cold weather sheltering for those in need due to the predicted drop in temperatures tonight, Saturday, March 12.

📍 The Salvation Army – Center of Hope, 1400 10th St., Sarasota will conduct their normal cold weather operation plan Saturday, March 12, with intake beginning at 7 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and breakfast will be served at 5:30 a.m.

📍 In south county, 100 Church, 14525 Tamiami Trail, North Port will open their cold weather shelter on Saturday, March 12, opening at 5 p.m. and closing at 7 a.m. the following morning.

Emergency Management officials remind residents that pets should not be left outside during the cold weather. Citizens who need to be outside overnight or during the early morning hours are encouraged to dress in several warm layers and limit skin exposure to the wind.

Sarasota County Fire Department officials advise citizens to use caution when heating their home, as the risk of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning increase during very cold weather due to the improper use of heating devices, so extreme caution is advised.
