Cancer Connection’s Center is providing all services remotely via phone and video technology.

Cancer Connection provides a haven where people with cancer and their loved ones can learn how to navigate the complicated cancer journey through one-to-one guidance, education, peer support, therapies, and creative programs, all free of charge. Our Cancer Connection Thrift Shop is open with revised hours. Check their section of our website for updates. http://www.cancer-connection.org/thriftshop


IMPORTANT NEWS for anyone seeking support while dealing with cancer or for anyone who is a loved one or caregiver:

Call us at 413-586-1642 Our Befrienders are available to talk, listen, share information, and offer our services where we can during this time of in-person closure. If you do not reach a Befriender, please leave a message. We will call you back as soon as possible. Our Befrienders will let you know how to access additional services while we operate remotely due to the pandemic. To chat with someone, to learn about or sign up for any of our services, call any time: 413-586-1642. If you don't get us on the phone, please leave a message and we'll call you back. Our fax # is 413-280-0223. Some options available to people facing cancer, including the person with cancer, their caregivers, and their loved ones:

--spend time in our meditation garden; an oasis for healing the spirit;

--nine cancer support groups, including one in Amherst: breast cancer, metastatic breast cancer, advanced cancer (phone support), gynecological cancers, men's cancers, all-cancers (groups in Amherst and Northampton), caregivers and families and a self-care skills and support group;

--integrative therapies- We are currently offering calming strategies telehealth to help you cope with the inevitable stress of a cancer diagnosis and treatment. We are also offering Calming Strategies and Relaxation Recordings, with Ann Buscemi

--programs to strengthen the body and soothe the soul:
Spirit of the Written Word
Rest to Heal
Music & Movement
Mindfulness Program
Knitting

April 25th marked a momentous and long awaited day for Cancer Connection; we celebrated our expansion into a second location! We’re so very grateful to Mayor Dominic Sarno and City Councilor Brian Santianello for all their support as we expand our circle of care into Springfield. We cut the ribbon for our second thrift shop and new Befriending office at Bicentennial Plaza on Allen Street yesterday, and please stay tuned for details for our grand opening! We’re endlessly grateful to the all the friends, supporters, amazing board members, staff, and volunteers that helped to bring us to this moment. Huge thanks to Bikes Fight Cancer for being there with us to celebrate and for all the amazing support.
And special thanks to 94.7 WMAS - Springfield, MA for bringing the music and bubbles!

Author Talk & Discussion: Preparing For End of Life For Dummies with Virginia Chang
Tuesday, May 19th, 5:30-6:30pm. This is a remote program, and is open to the general public.
Join us for a thoughtful and accessible one-hour virtual author talk and discussion of the newly released book "Preparing For End of Life For Dummies" by Virginia Chang, certified end-of-life doula, educator, and writer.

This conversation-style program will highlight key themes from the book, share insights, and explore practical guidance for navigating end-of-life planning with clarity and compassion, exploring such topics such as:

• Navigating legal and logistical preparations
• Building a meaningful support network
• Exploring funeral and burial options
• Understanding the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of end-of-life care

End of life does not have to feel overwhelming or frightening. This conversation will open the door to a more grounded, thoughtful, and even empowering way to approach it.

The program is free of charge to anyone in the community, regardless of a cancer diagnosis. Registration required.

We had a very busy weekend- playing scrabble, making new friends, enjoying fabulous performances, all to raise much- needed funds to help keep our programs and services free of charge. First, was the Scrabble event hosted by the Northampton Scrabble Club! Our ED loved playing a round with board member Malaika Ross, with encouragement from board Co-President Jean Einstein. Later that same day we were dazzled by the skill, artistry, and joyful flamboyance of Tony Isham’s Camilla and her roster of incredible performers, including Marita Bonita! This one day is a great example of how support for cancer connection is as diverse as the people we serve.
