Ways to connect in Isolation
Now that many of us are home a lot, it pays to find nourishing activities to stay connected and build vitality. Studies have shown that the immune system is weakened by screen time of the more passive sort - scrolling through feeds or watching tv - but strengthened by the more active sort - calling friends or writing something of substance. (one report has screen time doubled in the US)
Involve grandparents
If you have elders in your family/friends circle, set up a time every day when they can tell or read a story to the children. Put the phone on speaker, or better yet connect it to the stereo for better sound. Traditional fairy tales or quality literature are most nourishing, or something that has meaning to your family.
Create Rhythms
If there are no grandparents available, or perhaps no children, set a time every day to read aloud something of substance as a household. You could even light a candle. A good novel works, or something of a spiritual or religious nature.
Be well !
