About thirteen years ago, I volunteered for AmeriCorps in Northern California, working to protect and restore an endangered/threatened salmon population. I was paid just enough to cover rent and a couple of other expenses, but I didn't make enough money to buy groceries. I heavily relied on SNAP to eat. I didn't think twice about applying for this benefit. I knew I couldn't afford groceries on top of rent. And while I hate this phrase, applying for SNAP literally felt like a "no-brainer."
While I no longer need to rely on this predominantly federally funded program, food access and food security are still close to my heart.
In addition to my work as a massage therapist, I also work for a local nonprofit that helps local farms remain viable, educates people on the importance of buying local and supporting small farms, and works hard in advocacy efforts & our Senior FarmShare program to make local food more accessible.
Having access to healthy and even local food should not be considered a luxury. It's a human right.
This November, I'll be donating a portion of my business sales to a local nonprofit and farm store to support those in need.
By booking a massage with me, you're not only supporting your own well-being; you're helping others to meet their own basic needs. Thank you for your support 💛
