Based in Central Massachusetts but virtual classes, groups and events also provided. Yes. This. I've been recommending no or less burping for years...if baby is calm or asleep, no burping is needed, enjoy their calm or sleeping time. If baby is fussing, try to feed again right away...if they don't seem to want that, then change their position and pat their bum or bounce them upright...there are so many soothing options but rhythm is key. I have also seen situations where people try to burp baby for so long that they (the parent/caregiver) are prevented from doing something else (like sleep) for 1/2 hour when baby was already asleep. Or, baby keeps crying, parent keeps patting to try to get a burp, but really baby is still hungry. :) And yes, even if baby has nursed from both sides, they could still be hungry--go for that third side. And if baby is fussy several times a day, get help. :)
