Hello folks! Melissa Anne here! I'm THRILLED to announce that I am officially a published FIRST author!

My policy analysis of the 2020โ€“2021 Report on Maternal Mortality in Massachusetts was officially released yesterday in Policy, Politics & Nursing Practice!

The article can be found at:

What a great couple of days I had in Madrid, Spain, with 120 lactation consultants!! The room was full and there was a waiting list...sigh, oh no, I guess I have to go back?!?! Twist my arm!

The ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Asociaciรณn Espaรฑola de Consultoras Certificadas en Lactancia Materna (Spanish Lactation Consultant Association, https://ibclc.es) is led by wonderful people and I so very much appreciate the incredible hard work of my talented IBCLC colleague Maria Romeu, who I worked with for many hours before the workshop to ensure it was going to work--as she translated all my slides, sanitized and organized fl**ges and pump parts, and coordinated so much of the event, AND she did fantastic consecutive translation ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ during the 2-day workshop! The other leaders of the AECCLM are also wonderful people, and with their support, the workshop was a success. (Maria is the one standing behind me in the jeans in the photo.)

One pediatrician-IBCLC told me she ๐Ÿš˜ drove 600km to attend, and a midwife-IBCLC from the Canary Islands ๐Ÿ๏ธ flew โœˆ๏ธ to be there. People from all over Spain attended, and another pediatrician-IBCLC has already talked with me about starting a research study ๐Ÿ” in the NICU at the large hospital ๐Ÿฅ where she works! Amazing commitment!!

What a wonderful group of people, so interested and passionate about their work with families--and now passionate about fl**ge fitting with this "new" approach, as they witnessed how all 7 of our lactating volunteers found ultimate comfort with their best-fitting fl**ges and saw sprays ๐Ÿ’ฆ like they never had seen before. 6๏ธโƒฃ of the volunteers had babies ๐Ÿ‘ถ in the NICU and were thrilled they could pump now with comfort and give more milk ๐Ÿฅ› to their babies.

And I loved Madrid! Now it's time to rest and be back home, after my time in Europe. I can't wait to go back.

More and more parents/parents-to-be are planning to nurse their babies ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿฟ and/or pump milk ๐Ÿฅ›for their babies. That means that those who work with families need to know more about pumps, fl**ge fitting, and bottlefeeding.

There's a workshop coming up on November 1๏ธโƒฃ 8๏ธโƒฃ for perinatal professionals...it's via Zoom, which means it's LIVE, and interactive, not just a lecture. And it's NOT recorded--it's live (remember those, from back in the old days?).

Find out how to support your clients with:

โœ…๏ธ choosing and using pumps (there are so very many!)
โœ…๏ธ a customized fl**ge fitting, using updated tools and techniques
โœ…๏ธ choosing and using bottles (it's no longer simply about "paced feeding" and "slow flow"
โœ…๏ธ a discussion of appropriate use for catchers and pullers (those silicone things all parents seem to have today)
โœ…๏ธ determining your scope of practice and finding people in your community to work with collaboratively for the benefit of your clients
โœ…๏ธ completing this course qualifies you to join our Directory

While I AM working on my 2026 in-person workshop calendar, this information is vital to have sooner than that, your clients are relying on you!

Sign up and mark it on your calendar! ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ. Can't attend 11/18, there's another one scheduled for January.

Wow. So cool.

Wow. So cool.

When Dr. Katie Hinde began studying breast milk, most scientists treated it as simple nutrition.
Calories, proteins, fat nothing more.
She looked closer and saw a language.
Katie discovered that milk changes depending on the babyโ€™s needs.
A mother nursing a son produces milk richer in energy.
A mother nursing a daughter creates milk with more immune cells.
If a baby falls ill, the milkโ€™s composition shifts within hours, an invisible conversation between
body and child.
Her research revealed something profound:
Breast milk is not a passive food. Itโ€™s a biological message system.
Dr. Hindeโ€™s work redefined maternal science and exposed how modern medicine overlooked
womenโ€™s biology for centuries.
While labs raced to map the human genome, almost no one had studied the most ancient form
of nourishment โ€” a motherโ€™s milk.
Today, her discoveries are reshaping how hospitals, pediatricians, and policymakers understand
infant health.
As she often says, โ€œEvery drop tells a story between generations.โ€
Dr. Katie Hinde didnโ€™t just study milk.
She decoded the conversation that built humanity itself.
