ONLY 6 SEATS LEFT!

Join our Spring Reflective Practice Group with Karen Dilfer, OTR/L, M.S.

Feeding therapy asks a lot of us β€” navigating caregiver emotions, balancing competing priorities, holding space for slow progress. This spring, Karen Dilfer is hosting a 7-session Reflective Practice Group for OTs, SLPs, RDs, and social workers doing pediatric feeding work. A small, intentional space to step back and think together about the clinical questions, the relational ones, and the ones that tend to stay with you after a session ends.

πŸ“… Tuesdays, 7-8:15pm CT starting March 24

Before we try new foods, we have to feel safe around them. The nervous system isn't asking "is this food good?" β€” it's asking "is this moment safe?" Felt safety is the foundation for all learning, including mealtimes.

This quote from Ellyn Satter reminds us that feeding is always about relationship. At GPI we strongly believe that in feeding therapy, we work with the parents AND the child. It's not soley on the child to make changes!

Prioritizing Felt Safety and Connection in the Feeding Relationship
A Registered Dietician's Perspective
with Anna Lutz, MPH, RD, CEDRD-S

The nervous system plays a significant role in how and what a child eats. Feeling safe is essential for ingestion and digestion. Feeding and nutrition advice often can lead to fear, worry, pressure and nervous system dysregulation. In this session, participants will be introduced to the Polyvagal Theory, the window of tolerance model, and the research applications for clinicians providing treatment for pediatric feeding difficulties. The feeding relationship will be highlighted, along with approaches to prioritizing nervous system regulation of the caregiver and child. Participants will explore "bottom up" approaches to treatment that integrate the treatment of trauma, attachment and sensory processing integration.
