For Sladjana Cvijetinovic, third time was the charm.

When Sladjana’s third son Anze was born, she worried he might have trouble with breastfeeding like his two older brothers did.

Lactation consultant Nicole Martens, MAN, CNP, IBCLC helped Sladjana gauge how much her baby was eating – building up his weight, and her confidence, at the same time.

“Working with Nicole eased my anxiety,” Sladjana says.

Our lactation specialists provide you with education and support to help make breastfeeding a positive experience for you and your new baby . . . wherever your baby was born. (Not born at Northfield Hospital? We'll need a referral from your provider to establish your care here.)

When winter keeps you indoors, staying active can still be simple.

Short walks around the house, light stretching, going up and down the stairs, or doing a few strength exercises can keep your body moving. Even small bursts of activity help your joints, your balance, and your mood.

If you are looking for ways to stay active this season, start with what feels manageable and build from there. Every bit of movement makes a difference.

Jake Kasel took a hard fall on a cold winter day.

He was on his backyard hockey rink gathering pucks when his skate slipped. He hit his head, had a seizure, and required emergency surgery. Afterward, Jake spent days in a medically induced coma. When he woke up, he came to NH+C, determined to recover.

“I wasn’t just going to lay in bed and be there for a month,” Jake says. “I set the bar with my doctors, nurses and therapists that I had a mission to get out of the hospital as soon as possible.”

With support from our physical, occupational and speech therapy teams, Jake began rebuilding his strength through small, steady steps – always aiming high.

Our CEO Zander Abbott recently spoke with KYMN Radio about how we’re planning to strengthen rural health care in 2026.

Northfield Hospital + Clinics and Allina Health have signed a letter of intent to transition the Allina Health Northfield Clinic to NH+C ownership as part of a partnership agreement that will strengthen care coordination and integration between the two independent organizations.

Patients will have access to expanded primary care through Northfield Hospital + Clinics and seamless access to specialty care from Allina Health.

Menopause brings lots (lots!) of physical changes. One of the ways to ease uncomfortable symptoms is hormone therapy – replacing the hormones your body is no longer making.

You might think the first step to hormone therapy is getting your hormone levels tested. But here's the truth: during menopause, hormones like estrogen and progesterone are in flux.

Testing your levels only gives a snapshot of what's happening in that moment – it doesn’t tell the whole story. Testing can be expensive and is often unnecessary.

Providers can diagnose and treat based on your symptoms rather than lab work. If you’re experiencing classic menopausal symptoms, your healthcare provider may recommend hormone therapy without any tests at all.

Our Women's Health team can guide you through options tailored to your needs.

We have news to share: Northfield Hospital + Clinics and Allina Health have signed a letter of intent to transition the Allina Health Northfield Clinic to NH+C ownership as part of a partnership agreement that will strengthen care coordination and integration between the two independent organizations.

Patients will have access to expanded exceptional primary care through Northfield Hospital + Clinics and continue to receive specialty care in a seamless manner from our colleagues at Allina Health.

“This is an innovative way to expand on neighbors caring for neighbors while assuring that hometown primary care stays in the hometowns we serve,” says NH+C CEO Zander Abbott.

NH+C and Allina Health are on track to finalize a binding agreement in early 2026, with plans to complete the transition of the clinic in summer 2026.

Meg Witt strives for ordinary days.

Meg is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor at St. Olaf College, where she helps students through life’s challenges.

Her own health challenges are daunting. Meg has three rare conditions that affect multiple systems in her body: circulation, joints, muscle function, digestion, immune response.

“My huge goal is to stay working, manage my symptoms, and find enough balance to stay present and engaged with my family life,” Meg says.

Hydration infusions at the Cancer Care & Infusion Center help. A lot.

Consistent care, close to home, “makes everything just so easy," Meg says. And CCIC staff are "such a great team, and really care about me being okay.”

That team can help make the days more . . . ordinary.

Everly Sellner traded her tonsils for tattoos.

Her tonsillectomy was scheduled for the last week of school. Everly would miss the chance to tattoo her teacher at a fun school fundraiser. The six year old was disappointed. So she brought tattoos to the hospital for the nurses . . . and drew a crowd.

Everly even tattooed her ENT surgeon, Dr. Gerard O’Halloran, with a strawberry on his bicep. (He kept his hands scrupulously clean for surgery.)

“Everyone was so kind to her, and she felt very at ease,” says Everly's mom Kelly.

Health care that feels like home

It was an unusual way to celebrate a birthday. But then, 100 isn’t your typical birthday.

Margit Fredrickson was turning 100. Her son Karl thought she’d like to meet a baby who shares her birthday . . . 100 years apart. He called the Birth Center at Northfield Hospital that day to ask if any new babies had arrived. That’s how Margit met Waylon, just hours after he was born.

We’re proud that Northfield Hospital is a place where community connects . . . for over 115 years.

Our hospital and clinics provide state-of-the-art care in a tranquil environment that’s easy to reach, easy to navigate, and always welcoming. Our providers and staff are here for you in your happiest . . . and hardest . . . moments.
