Adherence To Mediterranean, DASH Diets May Reduce Insomnia Risk In Postmenopausal Women, Study Finds
Neurology Advisor (11/5) reports a study found that “postmenopausal women with a better diet quality are at lower risk for insomnia.” Researchers observed that “compared with those with poor adherence to the Mediterranean or DASH diets, women with better adherence tended to have healthier profiles, including lower BMI, higher physical activity levels, and a lower prevalence of hypertension and type 2 diabetes. Incident insomnia at 3 years was less likely among individuals with good adherence to the alternate Mediterranean or DASH diet.” Furthermore, “risk for insomnia decreased with each standard deviation increase in diet score for the alternate Mediterranean or DASH diets.” The study was published in Sleep.
