This Women’s History Month, Josselyn recognizes three women whose work largely happens behind the scenes but is essential to serving our community.

From securing funding and providing clinical care to guiding clients through their first interaction with services, each plays a vital role in advancing our vision of Mental health for all.

MK Barley-Jenkins, Shreya Jain, and Ruth Lizcano each contribute in different ways, but share a common commitment to ensuring individuals receive compassionate, accessible mental health care.

Access to community-based mental health care is more important than ever. Community mental health centers also play an important role in preparing the next generation of clinicians.

At Josselyn, our first-year clinical interns from Loyola University Chicago work in the intake team, answering calls from individuals seeking services and helping connect them to care.

In their own words, they share what they are learning about supporting people during their first point of contact with mental health services.

In honor of International Women’s Day, we celebrate Dr. Irene Milliken Josselyn, the women of Josselyn, and those shaping mental health in our communities.

Josselyn was established by child psychiatrist Dr. Irene Milliken Josselyn who saw the need for affordable mental health treatment for children and families who were unable to afford private care.

Considered a true visionary, Dr. Josselyn founded the North Shore Mental Health Association in 1951 as a psychiatric clinic to serve families who could not afford private care. Her vision for the clinic was based on the principle of equity in accessing quality mental health services.

Her legacy continues through the women at Josselyn who serve thousands of individuals and families each year.

Stay tuned for a special feature highlighting the women behind the scenes at Josselyn who are making a difference.
