Our team was proud to attend Disability Rights Advocacy Day (DRAD) 2026 at the Colorado State Capitol.

DRAD is a statewide day of action at the Colorado State Capitol where individuals with disabilities, advocates, and community partners meet with legislators to discuss issues that impact people with disabilities and their families.

We are always honored to stand alongside self-advocates and partners to ensure the voices of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are heard.🤍

Last week, we gathered together for a watch party as the Advocate of the Year finalists were announced, and we were proud to learn that our very own Genesis was selected as a finalist for Advocate of the Year, an award presented by Alliance Colorado, The Arc of Colorado, and JFK Partners.

For more than ten years, Genesis has supported individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families with compassion, dedication, and unwavering advocacy. She empowers families to understand their rights, navigate complex systems, and find their voice.

In true Genesis fashion, she was unable to attend the watch party because she was supporting a family at a meeting, a reflection of her commitment to the individuals and families she serves.

Congratulations, Genesis. We are so proud of you and this well-deserved recognition.🤍

The Advocate of the Year winner will be announced on March 3. You can watch the awards presentation live on Alliance Colorado's page.

Behind the Bills: Colorado played a key role in advancing disability rights.

In 1978, Denver activists protested inaccessible buses, leading to wheelchair lifts on RTD buses and helping launch ADAPT, a national disability rights organization.

House Joint Resolution 26-1002 reaffirms Colorado’s recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the ongoing importance of civil rights and accessibility.
