NAMI Metro NAMI Metro works to provide help, hope and healing for those affected by mental illness. Public awareness activities, including Mental Health 101 seminars.

Family and individual Peer Education and Support

NAMI Metro’s education programs include Families in Action, Monthly General Education Meetings, Peer-to-Peer Support groups, and various other programs. Public Education and Information, referrals, and education to our website visitors each day, the NAMI Metro Help Line, fields requests every day. In Our Own Voice helps dispel the stigma associated with mental illness and encourages early intervention and treatment. Ending The Silence presentations for middle schools and high schools. Encourages mental health and education about signs and symptoms of mental health. Advocacy on Behalf of People Living with Mental mildness. We can help connect individuals to appropriate services/help. NAMI advocates for policies that are reflective of the best economic, science, recovery, and systems choices. Public Events That Raise Funds and Awareness
NAMIWalks is NAMI’s signature fundraising event. NAMI Metro joins with thousands of concerned citizens across the state to Walk for the Mind of America to raise funds and awareness. We will be happy to make presentations to any interested groups: In Our Own Voice, Family Member Education, NAMI Smarts Advocacy Training. Call us!!

Presenting will be Stephen R. Wiland, LEO Lecturer II

Steve is a licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW), Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICADC), and Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), currently serving as the Director of the University of Michigan's online Addictions Certificate Program, in addition to other teaching, training, consultation and private practice endeavors. Steve has over 28 years' experience developing treatment programs for, and working with numerous clinically complex populations, including individuals with personality disorders, trauma survivors, older adults, juvenile offenders, and County jail inmates.

Research Interests/Focus
Integrated treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
