Hey everyone! I am running the 127th Boston Marathon and raising money for the UMass Amherst Foundation towards the Community Veterinary Clinic at UMass Amherst Mount Ida campus. My goal is to reach $5000. I put together a 50/50 Super Bowl squares pool. Each square is $25. It will be split between the winner of the quarter and the charity.

Lymphedema is a condition that typically occurs when there is an obstruction to the circulatory system, mainly the lymphatic system which is involved in the immune system. The lymphatic system is significantly impaired during breast cancer treatment when lymph nodes are removed. With the removal of these nodes it causes a decrease in the ability of the body to circulate and remove fluid and creates an excess of fluid in the periphery. There are many treatments including lymphatic drainage/massage, compression stockings and exercise that can help alleviate the excess fluid. However, these treatments are extremely slow progressions.

Here is an example of a 35 year old female that is status post 6 months following a bilateral mastectomy. She has residual lymphedema primarily in her hand. We used the Normatec everyday within about two weeks which made a significant difference.

The patient’s response:

“The Normatec really relieved the pressure built up in my hand due to lymphedema. After each treatment I could not only physically see a huge difference, I could feel it as well!”
