Diabetes and your eyes: What you need to know 😳
* Diabetes damages small blood vessels in the retina (diabetic retinopathy), causing potential leakage, swelling, and vision loss. Key risks include blurred/fluctuating vision, early cataracts, and glaucoma.
*When your blood glucose (blood sugar) levels are above target range, over time, this can lead to diabetes-related eye disease. Diabetes affects your blood vessels, including the blood vessels in your eyes. As the blood vessels in the back of your eye are weakened, they can start to leak, resulting in blurry or cloudy vision.
* It is crucial to get annual comprehensive eye exams to monitor the health of your eyes.

Is it your first time getting an exam with us? Or maybe it’s your first time back in a while. Here’s how to prepare for your eye exam.
*Bring your old prescription glasses or contacts with you- along with a list of the medications you take. These are important!
*Our Norwalk and Lakewood offices are located inside Costco’s but you do not need a membership to get an exam. *Please arrive early to find parking and check in. We know life gets crazy, please notify us if you’re running a few minutes late to your appointment. (Or if you need to reschedule)
*Plan appointment length meaning the exam might take about 30-45 minutes. (with the exception of medical visits and contact lens fittings)
*Fill out the form we text to you!
*Bring your vision insurance card and information!

Choosing between progressive or bifocal lenses, what is the difference between the two? The choice between bifocals and progressives often comes down to your daily activities, personal preference, and budget. Progressives are a good option if you want a seamless, no-line look and need clear vision at all distances. They’re also particularly helpful if you spend a lot of time on the computer or have hobbies that require intermediate vision. 👩‍💻
👓 Bifocal lenses work well for people who aren’t bothered by the visible line. They’re also a good fit if you don’t use a computer for long periods.
👉 Getting used to new multifocal lenses takes time. Your eyes and brain need a period to learn how to use the different viewing zones effectively, as they gradually adapt to the new visual experience.
