6-7/10 low back pain ➡️ GONE!
Lachlan came in with sharp lower left back pain (6-7/10) when throwing, and even during a simple toe touch.
After a full assessment, we found tightness in his hamstring, adductor, and QL — all on the left side!
To test whether those were relevant findings, I quickly massaged the areas then retested his toe touch. Since the pain reduced to a 2/10, I knew I was on the right track!
Next step: dry needle those areas to aid in pain reduction and to help mobilize the musculature I identified as tight.
Then we retested! Always retest.
The pain was quickly alleviated after treatment.
But the work doesn’t stop there! With this new window of opportunity, he’ll need to train those originally painful patterns to better stabilize the region both locally and globally. This will ultimately help him throw pain free and ideally continue to keep him that way as he progresses his throwing.
This low back pain was simply a symptom of a bigger issue with his preparedness to throw. Once that’s been identified, the goal is to continue to progress him to be prepared for the demands of throwing.
