Strokes do not take a holiday, even during the holiday season.
In moments of stroke, timing and expertise still change everything. ⌛

Danbury Hospital and Norwalk Hospital are the only hospitals in Connecticut named America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care™ by Healthgrades!

This national recognition is based on consistent performance across critical measures that directly impact stroke outcomes. It reflects a system of care built for speed, precision and coordination, from the moment someone arrives through treatment and recovery. 🧠💙

Effective stroke care depends on rapid decision making, advanced clinical expertise and seamless teamwork across departments. When those elements come together, patients have a stronger chance at recovery and long-term quality of life.

When every second counts, the right care at the right time truly matters.

Thank you to the teams whose work makes this level of care possible, including during the holidays. ⭐

We continue to celebrate a leader whose vision has shaped the story of healthcare in our region for nearly forty years: Dr. John M. Murphy has guided our hospitals through transformation, challenges and growth. His actions have always anchored by one belief: that every community deserves exceptional care. 💙

From his early days as a neurologist, to the creation of Nuvance Health and merger with Northwell Health, Dr. Murphy has never lost sight of the people at the center of healthcare. His decisions have strengthened hospitals, supported caregivers and brought hope to families when they needed it most.

As he prepares for retirement this month, we are proud to honor his legacy with the John M. Murphy, MD Distinguished Chair of Research — ensuring his commitment to discovery, education and the future of care continues for generations to come. 🔬📚

Dr. Murphy’s leadership will continue to impact countless lives ahead!

The holidays come with traditions, treats and a little extra indulgence — and that’s OK. ✨🍽️

Nurse Practitioner Erica Seebeck shares a reminder we all need to hear this time of year: health and wellness aren’t defined by a few meals, a few days or a single season. They’re built over time, through balance, consistency and grace for yourself.

Food is meant to be enjoyed. Movement is meant to support you. Rest is part of health, too. There’s no need to “make up for” the holidays or feel guilt around celebrating with the people you love.

This season, we invite you to zoom out. Enjoy the moments, savor the meals, listen to your body and remember that real wellness is what you practice year-round. ❤️

Heart attacks and other cardiac events don’t pause for celebrations.🚨❌

Research shows heart-related deaths are highest around Christmas and New Year’s, when stress is high, routines are off, meals are heavier and people are more likely to wait too long to seek care.

If you or someone around you suddenly feels chest pressure, shortness of breath, pain in the arm, jaw, neck or back, or experiences nausea, sweating, dizziness or unusual fatigue, treat it as an emergency.

DO call 911 right away.

DO NOT drive yourself or go to a doctor’s office or urgent care.

Emergency responders can begin lifesaving care on the way to the hospital and alert the emergency department before arrival. Those minutes matter!

The holidays are about being together. If something feels off, don’t wait. Getting help immediately could save a life — possibly your own or someone you love. 🎄❤️

Hemorrhoids can be a real pain in the butt — both figuratively and literally — especially during the holidays. 🎄💩

Research shows that hemorrhoids and other anore**al issues often follow a seasonal pattern, with higher incidence in the winter months. Cold weather, holiday travel, richer foods and changes in routine can all play a role.

If symptoms flare this time of year, a few small adjustments can help you stay more comfortable.

Preventing gun violence and saving lives starts with community. 💙🔒

Nuvance Health is leading a system-wide effort to reduce firearm injuries through education, mental health support and strong partnerships across law enforcement and public health.

Since launching the Gun Violence Prevention Program in 2024, the initiative has grown into a powerful community resource:

✔️ Hundreds of gun locks, safes and safety materials placed directly into the hands of families
✔️ Collaborative community buyback events collecting nearly 60 unwanted fi****ms
✔️ Firearm safety messaging included in emergency department discharge instructions, reaching more than 220,000 patients each year
✔️ Su***de prevention and safe storage education shared at more than 23 community events

Guided by Dawn Myles, vice president of community health, and supported by philanthropy, this program reflects President and CEO Dr. John M. Murphy’s longstanding commitment to creating safer communities.

As the program expands across Connecticut and New York, our focus remains the same: empowering families with tools, knowledge and support that can save lives!

The Connecticut Department of Health has confirmed the first measles case in the state in more than four years. Measles is highly contagious, which makes awareness and prevention essential. 🛡️

Here is what you need to know to prevent catching it, and what to do if you have it:

The MMR vaccine provides strong protection for children and adults. If you are not sure about your MMR vaccine status, call your primary care provider. They can review your records and guide you on next steps.

Watch for symptoms such as high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash that spreads across the body.

If symptoms appear, call your provider before coming in so precautions can be taken.

Staying informed and up to date on vaccines is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your community. ✔️

If winter feels a little heavier every year, you are not imagining it. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is common, and it can show up as low energy, irritability, anxiety or that overall dip in motivation. 📉

Hygge is the Danish practice of creating cozy, comforting moments and it is one small way to bring warmth back into a season that can feel cold in more ways than one. It's about soft light, cozy textures and simple routines that help your mind slow down. It is comfort you can create on purpose. 🕯️🧣

✨ Light is your best friend
Warm lamps, candles and soft glows can help lift your mood when daylight is limited. Even small lighting changes can make a difference for SAD symptoms.

✨ Make your home a cozy zone
Think plush blankets, comfy socks, soothing scents and anything that signals calm. When your space feels warm your body often follows.

✨ Stay connected even on low energy days
A simple dinner, a movie night or a quick chat with a friend can bring emotional warmth back into winter. Social connection is a powerful buffer against SAD.

✨ Move gently
A bundled walk, a slow yoga flow or a couple minutes of stretching can boost serotonin and help you feel a little more like yourself.

✨ Small mindful rituals help
Tea time, gratitude journaling or curling up under a blanket can create grounding moments when your mood feels off.

Winter can be tough but hygge helps you build little pockets of comfort, connection and calm. A softer season is possible.
