This Thanksgiving, we’re sharing a story about connection, courage, and long-awaited answers.

Kim placed her son for adoption in 1983. For 41 years, she quietly carried his memory, wondering if he was safe, healthy, and loved. This year, thanks to Family & Children’s Agency’s adoption search services, she finally met Adam and welcomed him into her life and family.

Their reunion is not just about finding someone, but about finding peace, gratitude, and a new chapter for both families.

When 75-year-old Luis moved to Norwalk with his 9-year-old son, Juan Felipe, he felt completely lost. He had no family nearby, little money left after paying rent, and didn’t know where to turn for help.

“I was completely lost,” he said. “Thank God I found Family & Children’s Agency. Anytime I need something, I can call.”

Luis was introduced to his case manager, Mayra, who helped him navigate nearly every challenge from enrolling Juan Felipe in school and applying for benefits to finding support for food, clothing, and utilities when things got tight. FCA even helped secure financial aid so Juan Felipe could join a soccer team.

Life isn’t easy, but Luis says FCA gives him hope and stability. “Without FCA, life would be very difficult,” he said.

Luis spends nearly every moment with his son, determined to give him the future he deserves.

“I spend a lot of time with my boy,” Luis said. “I have him, and he has me.”

At one point, Kirby was in hospice care, unable to walk and unsure if she would survive. Doctors told her she might not make it. But Kirby refused to give up.

Nearly two years later, she is sober, back in school, and rebuilding her life with purpose. She says the support she found through Family & Children’s Agency’s Project REWARD has been life changing.

“This has become my biggest support system,” Kirby said. “Having that one-on-one with a counselor every week has been essential to maintaining my sobriety and finding confidence in myself. It’s a really big blessing.”

Through counseling, trauma groups, and relapse prevention, Kirby learned new ways to heal and found a community rooting for her success. Today, she’s back on her feet literally and figuratively. She’s present for her son, cheering him on at his games, and preparing for a career helping others in recovery.

“Project REWARD gave me the opportunity to keep striving, to understand that it’s never too late to heal,” she said.
