If you are dedicated to your routine, check out Dr. Kristen's latest post on Wellness Wonderland with Dr. Kristen Ball on why that may be bad for your brain's health! If you love learning new things, take a look too... you can learn something new, AND, find out why this is great for your health.
Did you know that studies show too much routine can actually be detrimental to brain health? If you don't do new things, your brain will stop making new connections and stop remodeling. Making new connections regularly is essential for brain health and maintenance. Although some routine can be really beneficial, adding in new activities, whether they are mental or physical, is essential for growth and slows cognitive decline as we age. Adding in small new things during the week, and bigger things monthly can help keep your brain healthy. Daily changes can be as simple as taking a different route to work or walking a different pattern in the grocery store. Bigger new things can include learning a new skill, researching a topic with which you are unfamiliar, or taking a trip to somewhere that you have never been. Remember, we are here to experience life, learning new things can be fun, and, as it turns out, also good for your health. Try something new today!
