❄️ HEAP is Back and Applications Are OPEN! ❄️

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)—which helps households stay warm during the cold winter months—has officially been restored following the government shutdown. After several weeks of uncertainty, support is once again available for those struggling with heating costs.

🗓 Applications opened Monday, December 1, 2025

HEAP provides critical financial assistance to help low-income households pay their heating bills. Eligibility and benefit amounts are based on:

✨ Income
✨ Household size
✨ Primary heating source
✨ Whether someone in the home is under 6, age 60+, or permanently disabled

If you or someone you know needs help keeping their home warm this winter, you can apply online at: http://www.mybenefits.ny.gov

When the nights get cold, no one in our community should be left without a safe place to sleep.

Catholic Charities operates a low-barrier, year-round Warming Center right here in Chenango County — open to anyone who needs warmth, safety, and a place to breathe for the night.

If you or someone you know is struggling with the cold, please let them know they are welcome.
