🧠✨ During , we honor the women whose advocacy in the mental healthcare field created much-needed advancements in the treatment and available resources to those dealing with mental illness.
Women like Mary Whiton Calkins (1836-1930), who taught psychology and philosophy at Wellesley College, was the first woman to be president of the American Psychological Association, and spent years battling gender discrimination in the field.
And, Bebe Moore Campbell (1850-2006) who dedicated her life to advocating for the mental health needs of the Black community, while also founding the Los Angeles chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
We owe our gratitude to the many women of the past and those who continue to shape the field of mental healthcare today.
