and so is TORNADO SEASON 🌪

Tornadoes can occur with little or no warning. 🚨

Taking precautions in advance of the storms, such as

developing an emergency plan,

learning the warning signs,

and monitoring tornado watches and warnings,

can help you STAY SAFE if a tornado occurs in your area

To prepare for a tornado,
businesses should develop an emergency plan.

The plan should include details on

suitable places to take shelter,

📕 policies to ensure all personnel are accounted for,

and procedures for addressing any hazardous materials that are on-site.

It is also recommended that individuals develop action plans for their families.

Inspecting Your Workplace First Aid Kit

The purpose of inspecting your first aid cabinet is to organize, prepare for replenishment and ensure it is ready and safe to use.🚨

Ready? Here is what you should look for as you organize.

1. Check for Unsafe/Damaged Products
Check for damaged, soiled, dirty or even partially used products.

As a best practice, all items should be single use to prevent cross contamination.

Open bottles of eyewash should be thrown out. For ointments, it is best to use "single use" type products.

2. Check for expiration dates 📆

Many of the items in a first aid kit have a shelf life. The expiration date will be marked on the container or individual package

3. Review & Observe the usage and available inventory.

As you check your supplies, pay attention to how much has been used.

This will help you plan for the future purchasing, avoiding the possibility of running out of a particular item.

4. Arrange & organize the product to it's appropriate location in the cabinet.

Every item should have it's place. Consistency is key to managing and maintaining your supplies.

Remember: Emergencies don’t come with a notice.💥

The original Johnson & Johnson First Aid Kit was put into practice in 1888.

Railroad construction during the 19th century brought workers to isolated regions in the American West, away from hospitals and traditional medical care.

When Robert Wood Johnson heard about this problem, he had the idea of packaging Johnson & Johnson’s sterile surgical products in boxes that could be kept with railway workers to treat.

The kits were a way to bridge the gap between injury and treatment.

They saw need not only for sterile supplies but also for the education of the public to ensure that injuries were treated—not intensified—in the first minutes.

Throughout the 20th century, First Aid Kits were expanded to meet new needs.
