Yes—Especially for Some Women.
A large study (Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev 2004 Mar;13(3):405-11) looked at over 100,000 women (mostly teachers in California) to see how alcohol affects breast cancer risk.

Here's what they found:
Women who drink about two or more alcoholic drinks per day have a higher risk of developing invasive breast cancer compared to women who don’t drink.

Details That Matter:
The more recent your drinking, the more it matters.
Drinking heavily now (not necessarily in your younger years) was linked to the highest risk.

Postmenopausal women are more affected.
Their risk went up 32% with heavy drinking.
Premenopausal women had a smaller (and less clear) increase in risk.
Risk is even higher if you also have other factors:

Benign breast disease (a non-cancerous condition found via biopsy):
Heavy drinkers with this history had almost twice the risk of breast cancer.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT):
Women on combination HRT (estrogen + progesterone) who drank heavily had more than double the risk.

So What Does This Mean?
Drinking two or more drinks a day increases your risk of breast cancer—especially if you’re postmenopausal, have had breast issues in the past, or are on hormone therapy.

If you’re looking to reduce your risk, cutting back on alcohol is a smart, powerful step—especially if you have these added risk factors.
