🌟 More Big news at LBL! 🌟
We’ve got a new smiling face around here — help us give a huge, happy welcome to Ms. Chloe! 👋🌈

Chloe is a proud Tennessee native who earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Tennessee (Go Vols! 🧡). She’s worked with littles in early intervention, schools, and outpatient clinics — and she absolutely loves helping children find their voice and cheering families on along the way. 💬✨

When she’s not in the therapy room, you can find her hiking Tennessee trails, curled up with a good book, flowing through a yoga class, or spending time with friends and family. 🌿📚🧘‍♀️

We’re SO excited to have her join our LBL family — and guess what? 🎉
We have openings available for new families right now! So if you’ve been thinking about speech therapy for your little one, this is the perfect time to reach out. 💛

Drop a “👋” in the comments to help us welcome Ms. Chloe to the team!

🌟 Tip Tuesday: Early Signs Your Child Might Need Speech Therapy 🌟
Every child grows and learns at their own pace — but sometimes a little extra support can make a big difference! 💕

If you’ve noticed your little one struggling to communicate, getting frustrated when trying to express themselves, or not meeting early speech and language milestones, it might be time to check in with a speech therapist.

💬 Early intervention helps children build confidence, strengthen language skills, and connect more easily with the world around them. The earlier we start, the more we can support strong communication for life! ✨

We make speech therapy fun, play-based, and tailored to your child’s unique needs. We’re here to guide and empower both kids and parents every step of the way. 💪👶

🌈 We currently have openings for new families!

📞 Call or text us at 865-213-2844 to schedule your child’s evaluation today.

Let’s help your little one find their voice — one word, giggle, and story at a time. 💕

🎃 Tip Tuesday: Sensory-Friendly Halloween Tips! 👻

Halloween fun can feel spooky for sensory-sensitive or nonverbal kids — here are a few ways to help make it magical:

🧡 Practice — Try a mini “trick-or-treat” at home so your child knows what to expect.

🖤 Comfy Costumes — Choose soft, familiar clothes or decorate a favorite outfit instead!

🧡 Go Early — Visit a few houses before dark to avoid crowds, lights, and noise.

🖤 Support Communication — Print a small “I’m nonverbal but here for the fun!” card or let your child use their AAC device to say trick or treat!

🧡 Bring Comfort Items — Headphones, fidgets, or snacks can make all the difference.

Every child deserves to celebrate Halloween — at their own pace and in their own way! 🎃💬

🌟 LBL AAC Spotlight: Meet Bentley! 🌟

This week, we’re shining our light on one amazing communicator — Bentley! ✨

Bentley’s mom shared with us a bit about their AAC journey, and it’s truly inspiring to see how far he’s come. Bentley has made incredible progress using his AAC device to express himself. He’s been able to use it at school to show just how much he knows — and we couldn’t be prouder! 💬💛

His SLP, Ms. Lauren, can’t brag on him enough — she says Bentley is doing an outstanding job using his device both at home and at school! She’s so proud that others can now see just how much progress he’s made since implementing AAC. 🌈

We are beyond proud of Bentley and all the hard work he puts in. His determination, his smile, and his growing voice remind us what AAC Awareness Month is all about — that every voice deserves to be heard. 💙

Keep shining, Bentley!🌟

✅ Tip Tuesday: Name the Feeling 😄😢😠
We love helping parents tune in to the many ways their child communicates — and one of the most powerful tools we can give our kids is the language of emotions.

Even before children are using many (or any!) words, they are feeling deeply — and they are watching you to help them make sense of those feelings.

🧡 One simple way to support your child’s language and emotional development?
👉 Start labeling their feelings out loud in everyday moments.

🗣️ Try saying things like:
“You’re so excited! I see your big smile.”

“You look frustrated. That puzzle piece didn’t fit.”

“You’re sad. It’s hard to say goodbye.”

“You seem worried. That noise surprised you.”

“You’re happy! You love jumping on the bed!”

💡 Why it helps:
✨ When we name emotions for our children, we’re doing three big things:

Building their emotional vocabulary (so they can eventually express those feelings in words).

Helping them feel seen and understood, which builds connection and trust.

Laying the groundwork for self-regulation, empathy, and social skills as they grow.🌟 Tip for parents:

Don’t wait for big meltdowns or tricky moments — you can label feelings all day long!
Look for chances during play, meals, getting dressed, or just hanging out.
And remember, it’s okay if you don’t always guess the emotion correctly — the important part is showing your child that emotions are normal, nameable, and safe to express.

❤️ You are your child’s first language model.
When they hear you name emotions over and over again, they learn that:

Feelings can be talked about

Words can match what’s happening inside

They’re not alone in figuring it all out

This is the beginning of true communication — not just of words, but of connection.

🧡 Tip Tuesday | AAC Awareness Month 🧡

💬 Presume Competence: The Foundation of AAC Success

One of the most powerful things you can do for a child using AAC is to presume competence—that means assuming that the child can understand, can learn language, and can communicate, even if they aren’t doing so yet in the ways we might expect.

Think about how babies learn to talk: they hear thousands of words before they ever say their first one. The same is true for AAC users—they need input before we expect output. Just because a child isn’t using their device to “talk back” doesn’t mean they’re not taking it all in!

🧠 Why It Matters:
Children with complex communication needs often understand far more than they can express.

If we only offer limited language because we assume limited understanding, we limit their potential.

Presuming competence builds a positive communication environment where the child feels respected, included, and empowered.

✅ What You Can Do:
✔️ Speak directly to the child—not about them or around them.
✔️ Use rich, age-appropriate language—even if they’re not speaking yet.
✔️ Model regularly on the device, using full thoughts and real reasons to communicate (just like we do when talking!).
✔️ Provide opportunities for choice-making, commenting, asking, and protesting—not just requesting.
✔️ Pause and wait after modeling. Give time to process and respond.

Every AAC user deserves to be seen as a competent communicator. Believing in their ability is the first step toward helping them reach it. 💪🗣️
