🌷✨ Tip Tuesday ✨🌷

Spring is here, and it’s the perfect time to turn Easter fun into meaningful language practice! 🌼🐣

Try using these simple spring activities to build your child’s speech and language skills:

🥚 Egg Hunts
Practice concepts like “in,” “under,” and “behind,” along with colors and counting. Give simple clues (“Look under the chair!”) or have your child tell you where they found each egg.

🎨 Decorating Easter Eggs
Talk about colors, patterns, and actions like “dip,” “dry,” and “decorate.” Encourage your child to make choices (“blue or pink?”) and describe their designs.

🌱 Planting Flowers
Use step-by-step language like “dig,” “pour,” “plant,” and “grow.” Model simple phrases such as “I see dirt!” or “big flower!” and talk about what happens next.

💛 Keep it fun, follow your child’s lead, and celebrate all communication—words, sounds, gestures, and smiles!

Happy Easter Week! 🌸🐰

💚 Tip Tuesday: Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month 💚

March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month—a time to learn, support, and show love by wearing green! 💚

Communication is a big part of every child’s journey. Children with cerebral palsy may communicate in many different ways—through speech, gestures, facial expressions, or communication devices—and every form is meaningful. 💬✨

💡 Tip: When interacting with a child, slow down, give them time to respond, and acknowledge their communication in whatever form it comes. Those moments build confidence and connection!

Let’s keep spreading awareness, kindness, and inclusion this month and always. 💚

🧦💙 World Down Syndrome Awareness Day is March 21! 💛🧦

We’re excited to celebrate our amazing friends with Down syndrome by joining the Lots of Socks Campaign this week at therapy!

If you’ve never heard of it, the Lots of Socks Campaign is a worldwide movement where people wear bright, mismatched, or super silly socks to start conversations about Down syndrome and celebrate what makes everyone unique. Socks were chosen because their shape looks a little like chromosomes—and the idea is that our differences are something to celebrate!

So this week, come to therapy wearing your craziest socks!
The brighter, sillier, and more mismatched the better. 🧦✨

Our team will be wearing ours too, and we can’t wait to see all the fun socks that walk through the door. Let’s celebrate our wonderful friends and spread a little extra joy this week! 💙💛

🍀 Tip Tuesday: St. Patrick’s Day Speech & Language Fun! 🍀

Who says practice has to be boring? Holiday-themed activities are a fun and easy way to sneak in speech and language practice at home while making special memories with your child. With St. Patty’s Day right around the corner, here are a few playful ideas to try!

🪙Gold Coin Scavenger Hunt
Hide “gold coins” around the house and give your child clues about where to find them (under the chair, on top of the table, next to the lamp). This simple game helps build spatial vocabulary, listening skills, and following directions while keeping kids moving and engaged.

🧝 Label the Leprechaun
Print a picture of a leprechaun and work together to label body parts and clothing. This activity strengthens vocabulary, word retrieval, and descriptive language. You can also ask questions like: “What color is his hat?” or “What is he wearing on his feet?”

🏗 Build a Leprechaun Trap
Use items around the house to design a “trap.” As you build, talk through the steps using sequencing words like first, next, then, and last. This encourages storytelling skills, problem-solving, and expressive language.

📚 Read a Themed Story
Books like How to Catch a Leprechaun are perfect for practicing listening comprehension, predicting, and retelling. Pause during the story to ask your child what they think will happen next!

The best part? When learning feels like play, children are often more motivated to talk, describe, ask questions, and engage.

🍀 Save this post for later and try one of these activities this week!

💙👂Tip Tuesday for World Hearing Day!

Today we’re celebrating World Hearing Day with an important reminder for families: protecting your child’s hearing starts early!

Little ears are delicate, and healthy hearing plays a BIG role in speech, learning, and social development. Here are a few simple ways to keep those ears safe:

✨ Turn it down – Keep headphones and devices at 60% volume or lower.
✨ Limit listening time – Give ears listening breaks during the day.
✨ Use kid-friendly headphones – Look for volume-limiting options designed for children.
✨ Protect against loud noise – Use earmuffs at concerts, sporting events, fireworks, or other noisy environments.
✨ Schedule regular hearing checks – Early detection makes all the difference.

If your child says “what?” often, turns the TV up high, or seems to miss sounds, trust your instincts and have their hearing checked.

Healthy hearing helps kids learn, connect, and thrive. Let’s work together to keep those little ears safe — today and every day! 💙🎧

🎧 Tip Tuesday: Celebrating International Cochlear Implant Day

Today we recognize the life-changing impact of cochlear implants — incredible devices that provide access to sound for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss. 💙

But here’s an important reminder:

👉 A cochlear implant is a tool — not a complete solution.

After activation, the brain must learn how to interpret these new sounds. That’s where speech therapy plays a critical role.

✨ Why Speech Therapy Matters:

🧠Helps the brain make sense of new auditory input

👂Builds listening and spoken language skills

💬Supports clear speech production

💪🏼Strengthens confidence in communication

🎧Maximizes the benefit of the cochlear implant

Hearing through a cochlear implant is different from natural hearing. With consistent therapy, practice, and family involvement, individuals can develop strong communication skills and truly thrive.

💬 Access to sound is the first step. Learning to use it is the journey.

🌟Tip Tuesday! 🌟

Did you know that wait time is one of the most powerful tools you can use to support your child’s language development? 💬

When you ask a question or make a comment, try pausing and waiting 5-10 seconds before jumping in. That extra moment gives your child time to process, organize their thoughts, and respond.

It might feel long to us—but for little brains, it makes a big difference! ❤️

By slowing down and giving space, you’re building confidence, encouraging independence, and showing them their words matter.

Tip Tuesday! February is National Children’s Dental Health Month 🦷🪥😁

Did you know that dental health can have a direct correlation to speech development? There are several important steps to take in order to foster proper dental health for your little one.

🦷Check out our top tips:

✅Schedule your child’s first dental visit by 12 months of age. Scheduling an early visit can help establish a dental home and allow dental professionals to monitor oral development.

✅Create an oral hygiene routine early. Teach your child to brush twice daily for 2 minutes each. It is important to supervise their brushing until they can adequately brush independently.

✅Wean pacifier use after 12 months. Prolonged pacifier use can negatively impact oral muscle development, tongue movement, and bite alignment. This can further impact expressive language use, as well as production of speech sounds including /s/, /z/, /t/, and /d/.

✅Make healthy snack choices. Reserve sugary snacks and sodas as treats. Instead, offer tooth-friendly foods such as fruits and vegetables.

✅Practice/encourage proper oral posture. Proper oral posture includes the following: keeping the mouth closed, breathing through the noses and resting the tongue on the roof of the mouth just behind the front teeth. Maintaining a proper oral posture is beneficial for facial development, oral health, and overall wellness.
