Keeping up with my handstand practice has been near impossible on our dive boat (I did some sit ups and pushups yesterday and wow.. even that when we’re rocking and rolling!) so here’s a little footy from when we were in the bungalow..

Missing my FlowFit fam and hoping you all have a great Christmas Eve ❤️ I can’t wait to come home refreshed and full of movement inspo. It’s funny how sometimes abandoning my traditional practice inspires in-studio movement.

Tip Toe Chair Pose or Drinking Birds.

It might look basic but it is mighty! Here’s what’s happening under the surface:

As you rise onto the balls of your feet, your intrinsic foot muscles fire to stabilize the arches while your gastrocnemius and soleus engage to control the lift. The ankles move into plantar flexion, challenging your proprioceptors (the body’s balance sensors) to keep you steady.

Lowering into Chair recruits your quadriceps eccentrically to guide you down, while the gluteus maximus and gluteus medius stabilize your hips and prevent the knees from collapsing inward. Your hamstrings co-contract to support the pelvis and maintain a neutral spine.

Through the torso, your transverse abdominis draws in to support the low back, and your multifidi and erector spinae work to keep the spine long rather than rounding forward. Lifting the arms activates the serratus anterior and upper back muscles, helping broaden the shoulder blades and create space across the chest.

All of this combines balance, strength, and deep concentration — a total-body challenge in one deceptively simple shape.

Re: Consistency

Life is full of all sorts of things that threaten to disrupt our health and wellness. Travel, holidays, not being home at our regular studio or gym, long work hours.

Admittedly I grew up with a very all or nothing mindset. If the morning went to 💩, well, what’s the point in trying later in the day. Or if I didn’t have time to do a 60 minute workout I figured there was no point.

I have come a longgggg way from that but tend to still find myself battling it while traveling. Yes, I do appreciate that sometimes travel is a good break from a regular/heavy workout routine, but on a long trip like this I know it will cause me anxiety and not feel great to not have some muscle work in my routine!

has ALWAYS been great at these little exercise snacks in times when a regular organized routines are not an option OR when she simple felt like it! I’m taking a page out of her book on this trip. Opting for short workout bursts to get the blood moving and make sure my body doesn’t forget how to climb before a full day of floating in the sea 😀 I’ll keep you posted on how it makes me feel, inside and out! About FlowFit

Alex and Ashlee met about 4 years ago and have been collaborating ever since. Combining yoga and strength training is something that we believe is the key to improving your skills and accomplishing any goal mental or physical.

Alex takes her passion for yoga and movement to the next level in every class, keeping it fresh and interesting every time. Her focus is to help you understand how to utilize your muscles for maximum efficiency. She believes if you learn how to truly control your body, there is nothing you can't do. With her yoga classes you will gain flexibility, mobility and strength that you didn't know you were capable of.

Ashlee loves to mix up the format and timing of her workouts so that your body is always guessing, and you never get bored! Her upbeat and flexible approach is open to all levels and encourages people to try to challenge themselves with every move!
