When Jeff Koehn was diagnosed with throat cancer, his doctors at Sanford Health recommended treatment to include surgery and a clinical trial for radiation, a treatment protocol developed by Sanford Health radiation oncologist Miran Blanchard, MD.

With EVOLVE's lower-dose radiation treatment, treatment time is cut down from six weeks to ten days. And by decreasing the intensity, it allows for fewer side effects.

Terry Frieboes is part of Sanford Health's Volunteer Inpatient Program (VIP), a program created to enhance patient care and support nursing staff by providing an extra layer of assistance on inpatient units.

Volunteers play a vital role in improving the patient experience by answering call lights for non-clinical needs, helping patients get comfort items, providing companionship and assisting with basic requests.

"When you're in a military family and you move as often as some people do, every year and a half to two years, that's not exactly something that looks really good on a resume," said Donna Steineke. "I learned really quickly not to mention that I was a military spouse because that was kind of more of a deterrent more than it was a plus."

When a significant storm blew through Bemidji, Minnesota this summer, homes were damaged, trees were uprooted and lives were forever altered.

In 2024 two of Sanford Health Oakes Clinic's nurses, Brianna Thielges, RN, and Karlie Sitzler, RN, attended schooling to obtain their Certified Lactation Counselor certificate (CLC). Along with this, they were able to get a grant from BCBS of ND and from ND Health and Human Services to help create a special place for mothers to utilize while breastfeeding. We are happy to announce that the Sanford Oakes Clinic is officially an infant-friendly workplace. Breastfeeding is welcome here!
